The one where 78-79% of human energy usage is provided by fossil fuels for years now and despite large investments into the unreliable renewables, they provide less energy to humanity than burning wood?
Production does not equal policy.

Its a good thing that Ben Affleck realized the error of his ways regarding drilling for filthy Oil and instead decided to dedicate his life to becoming Batman.

So technically....Batman and John Maclean saved the world from an asteroid way back in 1998...now that would be a hell of a film.

Wait...what were we discussing again?

I agree with you that Trump has no clue.
But make no mistake there is a plan. It is coming from Bannon.

I would imagine the ambiguity in the wording of the executive order banning people from target countries is to allow the White House to back away from some of the harshest consequences, arguing they are unintended.

The key passage appears to be:

Quote:
I hereby proclaim that the immigrant and nonimmigrant entry into the United States of aliens from countries referred to in section 217(a)(12) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12), would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, and I hereby suspend entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order (excluding those foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic visas, North Atlantic Treaty Organization visas, C-2 visas for travel to the United Nations, and G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4 visas).
Which, really, translates to:

Quote:
I hereby proclaim that the entry into the United States of people from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Sudan, would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, and I hereby suspend entry into the United States of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order (excluding the ones with diplomatic visas or similar).
And the real problem is the word "from". What does that mean, exactly?

My Canadian gf, who was born in Tehran, is technically "from" Iran. Does that mean that she's banned, despite the fact she has a Nexus card, and travels to the US frequently both for pleasure and at the behest of her American employer? I guess that's now in the hands of some poor schlub DHS or border agent to decide.

What a disgrace that country is.

Is she still an Iranian citizen? Because that appears to be what they're going by. The state department has said that the ban applies to non-American dual citizens as well so an Iranian-Canadian who holds citizenship in both countries would be inadmissible to the US.

Pretty messed up situation.

Thank goodness the Saudis can still get in. They haven't done anything bad to Americans that I can remember in the past 20 years.

The trouble with it is that it seems to depend on how you interpret a person's country of origin. Does the person have to be a citizen of the target country, resident in the target country, born in that country? It's just not spelled out. So for my gf, she's Canadian, but her passport clearly shows she was born in Tehran. Would they even notice this? What if they did? Who makes the decision if that counts or not? And what happens if the guy who lets her cross the border into the US isn't the same guy she runs into on the way out? Is she detained? For what purpose?

It's just a mess. Usually departments would be given months to prepare for implementation of policy or legislation like this (and the policy/legislation itself would be debated so that ambiguities would be resolved). Instead, they're just going to have to do their best to interpret it, and a lot people will be screwed over in the process. And the white house and republicans don't care in the slightest. It's not their problem, as they see it.

What's gonna really be a kick in the nuts to the Trump cultists is when the next big attack is primarily from Saudi attackers, Trump will help fly the Saudi royals out of the country.

This has all been nothing but pandering to his supporters with zero regard for the long term ramifications. I'm very disappointed.

Yeah, Godwin's Law, but... Everything Trump has done so far is right out of Hitler's playbook, from the scapegoating of minorities, to the muzzling of any counter-opinions within the government, to the rhetoric against the media and framing of Trump's word as the only trustworthy source. Remember, Hitler's initial rallying cry was that Germany was a divided country that needed to be unified again as well, and we all know how he decided to go about doing that.

By the way, for those folks still laughing at what our neighbours are doing - How did that whole situation turn out for the countries that border Germany?

Nice thing about Canada at least is our oil is very difficult to extract, so since they can't steal it I'm not sure they'll have any interest in us. Other than to maybe hand us over to Vlad.

Still - our choice would be to collaborate with them and adopt all the BS Trump is pushing ourselves, or resist, be crushed by their military, and be forced to adopt it.

I would also like to point out that the Final Solution was supposed to be deportation of the Jews and other "undesirables," until the Nazis worked out that it would be cheaper and easier to do what they did.
