Nope. The only advantage parts of the US have over Canada is the weather, and if I want to move to a warmer climate it's going to probably be Vietnam. The US has far to many negatives attached to it now

^^ There's a Canadian who owns and operates a Sportsbar in Cabo called Shooters. Great guy, and you are always assured that the game will be on.

Kapolei would be ok as well. Although the rush hour traffic can be a little intense.

As a born and raised Westerner, I think I'd have to be out West. Washington, Oregon, Cali, Arizona, etc. After traveling all around the continent, there's just a fundamental cultural difference between East & West, I just don't "get" the East.
I actually feel like I have more in common with someone from Seattle than someone in Ottawa, I swear the border should be vertical cutting through central Canada/US rather than horizontal. Eastern humidity would eat me alive too, humidity is a foreign concept to this guy. I'd happily take 44 degrees & dry Arizona heat over that muggy, sticky 32 degrees and 100% humidity Ontario/U.S. easten seaboard summer weather.

I retract the statement from the OP saying I could move to the US.
8 days into the Trump presidency. Yeah, I think I'm good.

Having spent 2 years in SoCal as a young adult, you guys are nuts. Horrible place to live.
Ready to move back home to NW Montana. Not ideal for everyone, but it is home for me and my career is going to allow me to be able to live there at some point soon.
As far as living in American cities of size, Denver would top my list.
If I was going to move to Canada.....every place I've been is fantastic. (BC/Alberta only)

Would not move there with the current situation of having a mentally unstable president.

Maybe don't move there while Trump is President, but he seems so intent on crashing the American dollar, in addition to the GOP's desire to eliminate regulations everywhere and cause another financial crisis, that there will be some great opportunities to scoop up some properties on the cheap. And then move into the property when the orange goblin is out. Everybody wins (except Americans).

No thanks! Don't care who the president is or what state or about the weather. Lovely places to visit and plenty of nice people but not a chance I'd move there. Our healthcare is way more than just the fact we all have access. It's we all think everybody should be cared for no matter what our material status. That kind of thinking is all through Canadian society.
The Canadian "fabric" if that's the right term trumps(had to) anything the US has to offer.

With that said, I recently moved to the Washington DC area and what a night and day difference. There is almost nowhere else I would rather be than in this city right now.

Just out of curiosity and not to pry into anything if you don't want to share, but did you experience anything firsthand that made your thoughts on Louisiana so extreme?
IIRC, you were beaming about that place when you got your job there and talked about how there was better places outside Calgary if we would broaden our horizons a little. Now you paint it as the place many thought it was.

I have been in the US about 20 years now. Lived in Denver, LA and now Houston but still spend several weeks a year in Calgary. Changing cities was as equally big adjustment as changing countries.
I disagree with almost all of the generalities people try to make. In the big scheme of things, the two countries are incredibly similar and there are so many, many bigger factors that will affect your life than which of the two countries you live in.

Would you consider yourself middle class or higher? Below that is where the monumental differences between the two countries start to show themselves. If you've got good money in the States then it's more similar to Canada, for sure. Being white is huge, too.

Being a minority (Asian), it wouldn't be my first choice. Living in Canada my whole life and visiting the US often, there's a very noticeable difference in my interactions in Canada vs. those in the US even in the biggest cities with a large Asian population. Racism is everywhere, including Canada, but based on first hand accounts from friends and families in he US, it's much, much worse in America.
The archaic enthusiasm around gun ownership is also a big deterrent to living there.
Weather is the big selling point for me to live there but the US is a better place to visit for vacation than live for me.

The pervasiveness of this mindset is a major reason why North American cities are so unappealing. Architecture and wider urban design are incredibly important to building livable and sustainable cities.

I've told my wife if we're going anywhere in the next four years, we're not even gonna take a flight that has a stopover there. Partly as a boycott, and partly because we just don't want any potential hassle.
