A lot of the stops are perimeter and pretty routine saves. Oilers doing a decent job of keeping the net clear and rebounds to a minimum.

What was that word Oiler fans bombarded us with in 2015? Unsustainable?

It was just Oilers fans was it? And would you say those claims were proven inaccurate?

When the Oilers are getting outshot, it's score effects more often than not. Like last night.
January could have sunk them, but the opposite has happened. It would take a pretty epic collapse to miss now. The Oil has an 11 point lead on 4th place in division as well as the wild card.

Last night wasn't score effects. They were widely outshot before the go ahead goal. In fact, they were outshot while behind early on

They are getting outshot badly in the third, but Talbot seems to have a habit of stopping lots of shots, and the Oilers suddenly have a have a habit of scoring on all their opportunities.

It was 15-2 in shots for the Sharks, and McDavid just got a breakaway with an empty net. So it's 4-1.
They scored on 2 of their first 3 shots on the second

Ok. Fair enough. Never watched.
Just went by summary - Oilers outshot Sharks in 1st, even in second.

Is there anything on the internet where such an assessment is quantified using underlying numbers? I suppose they'd have to compare the current Oilers season with the Flames' 2015 playoff appearance, Colorado's 2014 playoff appearance and the Leafs' 2013 playoffs.

Would be an interesting read. Thanks

I won't go into too much detail, but the oilers underlying numbers suggest they're only slightly overachieving their numbers, which is easily explained by Connor McDavid increasing shooting percentages and Talbot actually being good. There's nothing unsustainable here (current streak aside). The oilers are actually good this year
