Seriously, there's no defending these actions - you can't tell me that neither of these guys owned a crowbar or a bat or something.

Not to mention, Trump worked the media like low-rent hookers during his campaign, it seems somewhat hypocritical and disingenuous to turn on them now.

Hypocritical and disingenuous? Nooo, not Trump. We just need to give him a chance. Between him and his poorly appointed cabinet they'll all start with the presidential stuff any minute now.

No. But it also isn't a crime to refuse to show your ID. So now what do you do if the person actually wasn't committing a crime? In order to "force" you to show your ID they have to articulate a documented suspicion or have probable cause.
So now if you want it to be that you HAVE to present papers or proof of citizenship then you have to change the law to reflect that. And that's a law that you will have trouble passing because let me tell you as much Redneck Joe may not like them immigrants and people with brown skin he sure as heck isn't going to put up with being told he has to show his ID anytime law enforcement asks him for it.
And if you say "well they'd never ask Redneck Joe for such a thing" you just crossed into racial profiling.....
So what you have is the ability to deport illegal immigrants that commit crimes. That already exists and they do that.
In the end the only real way to deal with illegal immigrants without breaking laws and getting into a moral quagmire is to make them legal. Which is an amnesty plan. Hence the DREAM Act in 2001.
And build a wall. Deport illegals. Do whatever you like under the guise of reducing drugs and crime. It won't actually achieve those things. Drugs will come into the country because the demand is there. Crime will still be committed...deporting groups of people that are actually LESS likely to commit crimes isn't going to do anything.
Did I specifically say this one does? But it will happen if they are allowed to do things unchecked. They will desperately want to take away women's rights. LGBT rights etc. They will try. They campaigned on it. They are going to try to install a person on the Supreme court who believes in those things. The whole stalling on Obama's pick had nothing to do with a pending election or other nonsense. It had to do with their regressive social agenda.
They've already done a great job of taking away voting rights.
|
Thanks for the reply. I agree that most likely that no good will come of it. And there is way too much grey in it for it to be effective- and it will be blocked by the court, if it ever gets any further than where it is now, until the next President takes office. But on the surface, it does sound like a good policy: deport all illegals who commit crimes. But it wasn't worded like that, just like everything else Trump does- yeah it's a good idea, but it doesn't sound good the way he phrases it.
My opinion on the bold isn't relevant because I am a straight white cis-male Canadian, ie/ the definition of priviledge

Right and I get that, but the President is presented to the people via 'The media.'
To say that the media should 'shut their mouths' is just...it burns my brain.
What the Government really needs is a Government run news station so that the Government can the tell the Government controlled media what to tell the citizens.
That ought to fix everything right up I think.

IIRC that was suggested by one of his people recently. "Maybe you should go straight to the president for your news and no where else" or something similar.

Bannon on being a Leninist...
Quote:
Then we had a long talk about his approach to politics. He never called himself a “populist” or an “American nationalist,” as so many think of him today. “I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.
I emailed Bannon last week recalling our conversation, telling him that I planned to write about it and asking him if he wanted to comment on or correct my account of it. He responded:
“I don’t remember meeting you and don’t remember the conversation. And as u can tell from the past few days I am not doing media.”

And BAM there it is!

I would expect that the renegotiation of NAFTA is going to be off the table and followed by the US dropping out of NAFTA. I can't imagine that Mexico can do anything but take this to a NAFTA tribunal.
This is going to be like the American's tossing a grenade at Mexico and it explodes killing mexico, but Canada gets gravely wounded by the shell fragments, and Donald us if he can has our stuff if we die.

It's going to hurt the Americans, too, especially the lower and middle-class. Inflation probably goes through the roof.

Then the Federal Government and the BC government better be willing to expand tanker traffic off the west coast, because if we defy trump he'll kill the XL Pipeline and we'll need massive pipelines to the coast.
