It's likely because having government ID is the most pain free and fastest way to vote, and likely the only experience that people have in their own personal lives.

I have worked elections before, including the most recent one. I'll tell you guy the reality, regardless of what the regulations say. There's only a few ways it goes:

If you have ID and are on the list, go ahead and vote.

If you have ID and are NOT on the list, go ahead and vote.

If you do NOT have ID and are on the list, show your two pieces of paper and vote.

If you do NOT have ID and and are NOT on the list, show your two pieces of paper and vote.

In any case where you don't have ID, nor the two papers, nor anyone to attest your oath then you do not vote. In my experience, we had 1 or 2 of these per polling place for the entire electoral district. They were astounded that you can't just show up, claim to be someone who lives at xyz place, and vote.

The majority of people do show up with ID, and those who don't have ID for some reason usually bring their papers or someone to attest them.

I guess my ignorance in this issue was that I just assumed the USA would have the same, or almost exactly similar rules. If not, which has been shown by numerous links/discussion (thanks btw... I didn't know all that stuff), then why not? Yes, it must be rigged against some as it stands now. Which is too bad, because that's not really the spirit of the system.

So my original point about needing to show ID I think is still fair, with a new caveat that obviously alternative ID/paper should also be permitted - I didn't know I'd be taken literally at my word about ID- but being able to prove who you are (in a way acceptable to the voting authority, which should be an independent "government" body) and that you have the legal right to vote in this district SHOULD be a mandatory part of voting.

Trump is only doing this, because in his reality, there is no way he could lose by 3,000,000 votes.
His brain is incapable of processing it.
Good choice America.
Time for a major investigation into the crowds at the inauguration.

Too bad he did lose by 3M popular votes... this will be a big waste of money, no doubt.

If he investigates the crowds, or somehow slams the media for showing it more, then it's only proving to people how large his ego is. It will also be a waste of time and money... and patience.

I wish he'd get over all this crap so that his detractors could quit poking the bear. He won, he's in charge, now get on with it and act like a president. Quit it with the petty remarks, the I-told-you-sos and that extra stuff. That is not very presidential and it's just giving detractors less reason to respect him as President.

I find pretty much every press video of him to be hilariously awkward. I'm sure in his mind he really does want to make America great again, and he really does understand how serious/"huge" of a burden/opportunity/job this is... but he has such a strange way of showing it.

His overconfidence that he continually projects is very easy to dismiss as complete showmanship. And I'd say about 90% of it is just showmanship, but I still think there's a part of him that respects the job, understands it's importance, and will do fine. Now he just has to get past all his BS campaign promises and do some actual President-ing, and let's see how that turns out.

I'm curious, what out of every public statement or action he's ever done in his entire life leads you to believe he actually understands the importance of the office?

I get wanting to believe that, no one wants to believe the conservatives in America elected the least qualified or presidential candidate in history but all signs point to yup, they did. I wouldn't want to accept the clown shoes that got elected either but all of the evidence points to GobIveMadeAHugeMistake.gif

Trump is the ultimate troll in chief. I laughed so hard when he shut down CNNs questions and now they have been busted using photos 4hr prior to the inauguration. You really can't 100% trust any news outlets.

I do want to believe it, because I honestly don't think there is a person out there who truly doesn't respect that a lead of state job is pretty important and challenging job. The general population obviously doesn't respect all the people chosen to do those jobs for various reasons, but the position itself is intrinsically respected.

I went looking for some quotes, but I found this instead:

Quote:
Trump left the party to one of his campaign anthems, The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
FROM: http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/loc...d-10604076.php

Whoever picked/suggested he use that song as one of his campaign anthems is amazing. Pretty much it plays to his supporters and gives so much fuel to his detractors. And they're both emotional over it!

Edit to add: what northcrunk said, this is an epic trolljob, but I don't think he planned it like that.

Sorry to come back on this, but just to show how insanely untouchable the Saudi's really are, they were not including in the list of countries where immigration will be banned from. Neither was Pakistan. And perhaps this is just a coincidence, but Trump has many business ventures in Saudi Arabia, and some in Pakistan too. And he just signed a new arms deal with the Saudi's. Saudi's might have it made more than ever under Trump.

Yeah your probably right, but it just doesn't make sense that the leading state sponsor of terrorism gets a free pass. At least having oil as the reason made it somewhat logical.

I wonder if this task force is still around.
this is from feb. 2016

Quote:
Upset with what they see as "executive overreach" from the Obama administration, Republicans are forming a task force to challenge the president’s power.
The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday approved the task force, which will be chaired by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). The top Democrat on the task force will be Rep. Steve Cohen (Tenn.).
The task force will probe some of President Obama’s most controversial executive orders and regulations as it looks for ways to reassert GOP power in Washington.
“The Constitution is clear: It is the role of Congress to make all laws, the judiciary to interpret the laws, and the president to enforce the laws,” House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte
(R-Va.) said in a statement.
The task force accuses “presidents of both parties” of “legislating from the Oval Office,” but the focus will be on the Obama administration.

It does make sense sadly, money is everything. Putting Iran on that list and not Saudi Arabia tells you all you need to know. Also, likely suggests that will be the spot if there's an American return to the Middle East. And I suspect there will be sadly. Lots of Iran haters in Trump's cabinet and inner circle, plus obviously Israel would strongly approve of it.

Yeah, why trust your own eyes when you can trust Alex Jones. Here's an image during Trump's speech (you can clearly see him on the live video screens) and the place looks half empty:

It doesn't matter. We've allowed his lies to become so common and unchallenged that they simply are now. The media did not do its job and instead allowed this to happen. They are complicit in this by allowing it to go unchecked in the name of ratings.

There may now be a few institution that challenge him but look at Spicer, almost every word of every conference he's had has been a lie. Every single headline should be decrying this instead of creating the new normalization of it but it's not. Instead we discuss how Melania looks sad or get caught up explaining plain goddam photographs and numbers to people.

It's brilliant in its idiocy and it has worked far better than anyone could have imagined. Tyson zone indeed.
