For Gaudreau the All star break may be the best thing to happen for him this season. A chance to get back to having fun and not having the pressure of the new contract against him. To me it seems like he's trying to do a lot more by himself to try and meet up to his own expectations which stops him from just playing his game. Maybe a game like the allstar game where it's all about enjoyment will ease himself up.

As for the roster we've seen this team play better in December. So the ability is there however the confidence is not. This is the time we need guys like Ferland and Bouma to instil some energy into the team. I think Hathway provided energy in games so that the team would get into it. But a player like that shouldn't be the only player to bring energy every game.

You're not gonna move that Gio contract any time soon and there doesn't seem to be a better candidate currently to take the C off him for. So you're pretty much left with coaching changes.

Gallant sounds good. However, he sounds the opposite of what a lot of people who want the present coach gone are clamouring for. The Flames team D structure isn't bad, though there are individual breakdowns sometimes. The complaint is about somehow stifling the top players' offence.

I'd bet that Gallant would want Brodie on the left side because of defensive structure.

Absolutely but these players whined and complained that Hartley was too hard on them so the GM listens, fires him and gets a nice guy that's more of an X and O's guy than motivator. This is what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum as this young team is not a lot different than the 2003 Flames team that needed a strong figure as head coach like Darryl Sutter that was going to crack the whip on them and push them every day. They may not like it but it's what they need. Look at the guy up north. He bag skated the Oilers when they stunk and ripped them in the media. Not pretty but it appears they got the message. I just don't know if Gulutzan is that kind of guy that commands that type of respect. It certainly doesn't look like it as this appears to be a team that's waiting for something to happen or someone to get fired.

Im laying in a bed in a hotel, I'm going to pass out of pure laziness.

I can't state specifics, but there were unquestionably some awful stretches under Hartley's watch as well.

That doesn't make this current run any easier to stomach though. It's definitely frustrating to watch knowing they are so much better than this.
