Absolute world of a difference between a team going from playing well to not so well and one that isn't even pretending to go through the motions. This team has quit. They are playing poorly / they aren't playing at all.
They could care less if their best player is slashed and smoked in the head. They aren't losing 2-1 games with unlucky bounces. They are down four goals in these games for a reason and it has nothing to do with streaky play. They will have to decide to actually show up before it will change.

It proves they're boring. Bad teams are a fact of life. They should be better, but if they're going to be a middling playoff team or worse, I'd rather see them getting into scorefests like the Stars and losing because they have the goaltending of a Chinese women's provincial quarter-finalist.
This isn't worth three hours a night at home on your couch. If I paid $250/seat to watch this night in and night out, I would be livid.

At the end of the day I'm sure happy I was at the game. Even a loss like that meant so much to be there.
Flames fall to 1-2 when I'm in attendance. But I've been a fan for 28 years. Averaging one game a decade.
Next game I go to I should be with my child (due in 3 weeks) so even a lop sided loss has sentimental value.

I wonder what Gaudreau is more angry about, playing with Chiasson, or getting hit non-stop without the team reacting.

Again, I never argued whether or not they're boring right now. If you consider it unforgivable, then don't watch anymore. But pretty weak form on your part to jump back on when they turn it around.

Giordano and Brodie are having forgettable seasons as well.
There is just so much dead weight on this team.
Bouma, Stajan, Wideman, Chiasson and Ferland are guys that, are on some nights decent, but just don't contribute enough to warrant NHL jobs.
Wideman had 22 minutes of ice time tonight while Dougie had 17 minutes. That is serious mis-allocation of resources. I don't see what Gulutzan's logic is there.
Gulutzan just doesn't look like he commands much of a presence, or respect. and that's coming from me, a casual hockey fan, i can't imagine what a room of professional hockey players must think. He really just has a weak presence about him. I know that isn't the most detailed, or fair, analysis but that's just how I see it.
|
With Johnny, he's taken an absolute pummeling this year, and nobody is doing anything to protect him from it.
I think he's probably beaten to crap, bruised and battered and demoralized.
Personally, I wouldn't dress him tomorrow night and force this team to play without him, and give him a few days to heal.
As much as we talk about the end of the goon, we need to talk about still needing some toughness in the lineup, not to fight but to give other teams at least some reason to pause and think through their strategy.
I would think it makes sense to get one of two players that are heavier players with a mean streak. Ferland and Bouma should be those guys but they really haven't been this year.
I've always said that a good team has it share of Aholes, and MT is an Ahole but at the same time I don't think anyone is scared of him on the ice.
If you look at the Oilers with a loose canon like Kassian, your aware of him when he's out there because he's a crazed jerk.

Absolutely agree. This guy has been extremely disappointing the last two weeks or whatever it's been since he's been back. No emotion no nothing from him that I'm seeing. I misjudged him a ton as he seemed a lot more gritty and tougher watching him with the blues, caps and Hawks. I don't know where that Brouwer went, but defintely haven't seen it with the flames.

The team did react. Gio fought (well kinda) and Tkachuk and Bennett went for slew foots late in the game.
Chiasson also went for the head of a Leafs player.

Wow. Given the games in hand and the flames hitting a really rough patch where they seem to have lost any mojo flames could be bottom 5 or worse quickly.
Given all the lame duck gm talk, am super curious what happens going into the deadline.
