Unless the goaltending improves this team is going nowhere. The team's overall play of late hasn't been as bad as everyone here seems to think it has been. But Johnson has been pretty lousy. The guy is a career backup so it had to be expected he'd regress some.
I think if the Flames want to salvage the season they're going to need to pray Elliott can return to form. With the goaltending the team has gotten lately it doesn't matter what the rest of the team does - they're not making the playoffs.
Hard to win if only one line has to score most of the goals. Sure Johnson struggled but its gets a little hard to hold forte when too many players are taking nights off.
I' been a Flames fan as long as I can remember and I've endured the devastating first round losses of the 90's and the horrible years when Todd Simpson was our captain. Todd Simpson. Losing the season series 0-4 to Oilers is an atrocity that can't be excused. It really hurts to say this but #### this team. You just let a generational #### show school you in our barn and that is unforgivable. I had to watch that #### show live and I want my money back plus pain and suffering of watching idiotic clowns high fiving in my home rink. Absolutely shameless losss. #### this team.

We have been season ticket holders since day one. Have paid for them every year. Haven't given up yet... but I don't know how much more I can take.
Fair enough, but as someone who has also watched them be mediocre for the majority of my life I would say keep supporting and that you are lucky enough to have season tickets. I love this team and if they lose to the Oilers every game for the next 10 years I still will. We need fans who are devoted to this team do t give up.

I'm not going to lie, I'm probably one of the most optimist posters out there. Bennett is our highest pick in franchise history. He was supposed to be our major building block for this team. It's really hard for me to watch him struggle, nothing is coming easy to him, he's getting no luck, and frankly hasn't been good enough, and now with Johnny there is no excuses. Johnny, Mony, Tkachuk, and Hamilton are the only peices I wouldn't trade. The rest I would seriously consider if given the right price. I love Backlund as much as everyone but if this team could get a first round pick and a prospect I wouldn't be mad. This team is rebuilding and our slim success vs the Canucks 2 years ago has given us false hope. We are a lottery team still and we shouldn't be signing veteran players (Brouwer, Frolik) until our core is set, and right now we have 3 players I would consider in our core for the next 10 years. That is not enough. Gio is in a ####ty situation where his prime years have already been used and his remaining good year will be during this rebuild. This team needs to keep building for the future, and I will be so ####ing pissed if they give away picks for a ####ty top 6 player to keep them fighting for the eight spot. I spent so many seasons watching this team be mediacore, I sure as hell don't want to watch another 10 more years of it.
At the end of the day it really can only get better from here. This is close to rock bottom for me. Getting beat in 4 straight games to our most hated rival is embarrassing. I'm pissed, I'm annoyed, I feel like I've been led down a road of optimism but this team is missing core peices and we were not a playoff team at the beggining of the year and won't be by the end of the year. Management tried to convince fans that even after finishing 5th last that we were close to being a playoff team. Brouwer and Versteeg should be traded ASAP. I have no hate towards either and Versteeg has been much better than I thought but getting assets and continuing to build for the future is the only thing this team can do right now. We just aren't there yet, why the #### would fans want this team to barely make the playoffs and crash out is beyond me. It's not gully's fault and it isn't because we don't have Hartley, it's because this team was in the midst of the rebuild and caught fire in 2015 and made the playoffs. That's it. We need to continue rebuilding, if this team doesn't get future assets or young players at the deadline I may lose the optimism I have for this team. Will always watch, will always support. But something I cannot do is lie to myself. We are not good enough to be building for the present.
