There is a women's march here in Kingston today too. I think they said there were around 400 people.

For some, I think it is more along the lines of "the money could be better spend elsewhere", like that roads project or trying to re-open my factory. I'm sure lots of people are sympathetic to refugees, but they want their government to focus on America first when Americans are hurting. I think there is also some nationalist undertones that resent them for fleeing as well and that Americans didn't run away from their civil war (again, we can debate the legitimacy of this, but that is a common feeling).

Does that make them a bunch of racists for thinking that way? I don't think so. I just think continuing to label the entire group of them as such is only going to be counter productive.
There is probably 35% or so of the republican base that votes along racial lines. It's basically beyond dispute at this point, republican strategists will admit as much in private, and some of them publicly. Political scientists and historians are also pretty much in lock step behind this as well. Do we think David Duke votes democrat? No, he publicly endorses the republican nominee.

The last third party candidate in presidential politics to get electoral support was running on a policy platform of national segregation.

I can't take someone seriously that can't see what's right in front of their eyes.

Locke, they're protesting, things have been protested since the beginning of time, this is one of those times!! They don't want an unpredictable, hateful human being as the president of the most powerful country in the world, so they're protesting that.

Locke has gone full blown right winger. Treliving is scouting him to play opposite Gaudreau.

Yup. Not to mention the fact that the new administration is about to take health care away from millions of people, defund planned parenthood, etc..

I'd say that's more than enough reason to protest.

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to argue at this point Flash. I acknowledged earlier that there are plenty of Republicans who are racist, xenophobic and homophobic. Whether or not it is 10, 25 or 35% of the base isn't really the issue I am trying to get at.

I'm trying to make the point that blanket labeling someone as a racist because they want to reduce the amount of refugees or illegal immigration isn't right or fair and that there are ways to justify that that are not routed in racism.

Far from it, really. I just, I find it strange that they are protesting the person they elected on his first day.

Look, if he'd wiped his ass with the American flag at his inauguration or something, then I'd get it. And thats not by any means off-the-table, thats probably still coming at some point, but he just hasnt done anything yet.

I guess they're displeased with his history and antics? Which they knew full well about and elected him anyways?

This is such a trainwreck.

Locke, you're a smart dude. The protesters didn't vote for him. I'd guess 99% were Hillary supporters. I'm not sure why you would think otherwise.

Maybe, and stay with me here, the people who are protesting Trump's inauguration didn't vote for him to be the President. Just because he was elected doesn't mean the people who chose not to vote for him can't voice their displeasure. That can't be an odd concept can it?

Well, thanks, this is my last post on it. I dont think theres much benefit to protesting a guy who has implemented a grand total of 0 policy.

They should be doing this every day and once they exhaust the Law Enforcement budget of the USA maybe the Donald will abdicate.

What? Do you think a single person who voted for him is involved in any sort of protest against him? I think you know that isn't the case.

I mean all this respectfully because I like you, I'm just genuinely confused by your angle here. He's got a list that could fill a trilogy of books highlighting his ugliness as a human being and politician, people know what's coming from him and we've already seen the beginnings of it due to his inability keep his mouth (twitter) shut for two seconds.

Trump doing a speech at the CIA right now. What a surprise, now he's saying he loves them and says they're going to have his full backing.

This guy is such an assclown.

He hasn't passed laws (do executive orders count?) but he's laid out plans that are scary.

I agree that the protests will have no effect on him because he's just going to label them losers, and call any reports of yuge crowds "fake news", and do whatever he wants. But there's still chance to influence Congress. I'm holding out hope that the moderate Republicans who know what a danger he is will come to their senses. Huge protests in the streets can only help that to happen.

Such an eloquent speaker LOL. I love his tangents of absolutely nothing relevant. I also loved the part about his take on the inauguration photos

LOL they even plagarized the inauguration cake:

The cake on the left is the one I made for President Obama's inauguration 4 years ago. The one on the right is Trumps. I didn't make it. 🤔

I didn't see the speech but did he really say this? WTF?

Trump on Iraq: “We should have kept the oil. Maybe we’ll have another chance.”
