Yeah I know...some will reply with "all young rich athletes like to party", yes but the way the top guys have showed up this year it's very hard to not think it's effecting their game when they're continually not ready to play.

You'd think they would have learnt from last years healthy scratching but I guess they only learnt how to get better alarm clocks.

I guess we can just keep blaming Gulutzan and ignore the leaders on the team.
If you can prove this as fact and not "my buddie saw Monahan and Johnny in the bar last Friday so therefore they are party animals partying before and after every game" then maybe you would have something but your post is far to speculative for us to take seriously.

Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
As per Glen Gulutzan, Chad Johnson starts again tomorrow vs. Oilers.

Wonder if Elliott is hurt then?

Johnson had two pretty pedestrian games. Can't see why they wouldn't start Moose after his excellent game last Saturday vs the Oil.

Because Elliott has 0 wins against them so far? It could be he's hurt too, but just something to consider.

Interesting. Maybe Elliott is slightly injured or maybe Gulutzan is being Gulutzan and his special glue-gun algorithm has spit out better odds for Johnson starting Saturday.

lol, only takes a few losses for Frank Metamucil to crawl out from under his hole and for the 'glue gun' moniker to re-appear.

How pathetic.

Seems like players are starting to and having success going to Johnson's upper glove side lately. I'll be watching for that going forward.
Also, Gaudreau has looked like crap for a while, trying unsuccessfully to stick handle through entire teams like he's in peewee and you can tell he's shying away from contact, it's lead to way too many turnovers. He really needs to be bumped, and more than 5 minutes of a single period to the 3rd line, until he can figure out how to adjust his game. It's clear to me that the book is out on him, hack, slash and check him at every opportunity and he'll fold. I don't think other teams respect him, I don't think the refs respect him, and I don't think his own team mates respect him. How else do you explain why teams continue to slash him, why the refs often don't call it, and why nobody on his team is stepping up to do anything?

It was bad defense but it was still a weak goal. Even Johnson would admit to wanting that one back.

I do have some personal experience with Johnny partying after games (to be expected) no personal experience with nights before games though.

Although a lot of people I know do talk about their partying ways. And the old adage where there is smoke there is fire may apply.

Kipper used to party like no other

going out to a bar vs. drinking all night before a game

big difference

Reading this thread and the forum the past couple weeks since the team has hit this latest bump in the road, it has made me realize the following:

- Gaudreau and Monahan getting their new contracts and leaving their entry level deals has falsely made many think the rebuild is over and we are now into this teams "win now window". It's caused all sort of miss aligned expectations. The analysis of the needs on here and what is and isn't working well on the ice is generally bang on, but the expectation that many of our young players should be performing at their "preceived potential" already is totally out of wack, and this thought that BT should have addressed all the holes that still exist in this team (from another top 4 D man, top RW and goaltending) is totally off base. This rebuild is actually way a head of schedule from where I'm sure any of us thought this would be when it started. Most of us probably couldn't have remotely seen how this team would have been competing for a playoff spot in 2016/2017 if you'd asked us to predict the future at the end of the tear down season.

- Oilers success makes us really impatient. Let's not forget they started their journey over 5 years before us and still required the luck of getting the only generational talent to come through the draft in a decade to get to where they are at the moment.

It's fine to be frustrated, and want better, we all do. But patience is also needed. This team shouldn't rush out to fill in all the gaps right now, we aren't even close to this cores prime yet.

I don't need to prove anything, either believe me or don't. Couldn't care less.

And the leadership on this team is just great hey? They lay an egg against the team that's on their tail in a playoff race and have a game against a team they're chasing tomorrow and not a single leader shows up. Not a single person with a letter shows up to practice the next day and our top players struggling would rather sleep in.

You'd rather blame Gulutzan though for them not being able to pass the puck, playing with no emotion, sleep walking through games.

It just couldn't be the players aren't doing enough to prepare themselves right?

You really are getting worked up over nothing. It is an optional skate. It doesn't mean they still aren't there in the gym or going over video.

Well you are making statements with ZERO facts to back them up so they are basically worthless arguments...especially from someone who goes out of his way to be negative

What do you think Gaudreau, Bouma, Monahan were scratched last season for? i know Flame fans love to be delusional and believe it was a one off incident but that's not true.

Notice how it's always the "buds" on the team looking like crap on the same night?

I guess Backlund, Frolik, Tkachuk missed the invites. They must not be following Gulutzan's plan to not skate, be crappy defensively and not back check.

Bouma at least looks to be turning the corner and actually going back to what made him successful in the first place. Hopefully the others follow up soon.

One may actually think that an optional skate isn't as beneficial to top line guys. Reviewing film and discussing with coaches might be better time spent.

All these guys party. I'd say most of these guys want to also win. Just because they make big bucks doesn't mean they just mail it in.

No I don't unless Bennett, Giordano, Brodie, Wideman are also part of the boozer buddy club because there's only been a small handful of Flames that have stood out as being consistently good this season and that's been the bottom 6 and Engelland. I suppose we should assume 1/2 the team has drinking problems according to your reasoning.
