Well, I didn't have a most-hated female player before, but I sure do now.

Genie lost the match when she couldn't convert on those 4 break points at the end there. Gotta take advantage of those when it keeps getting offered to you.

Pretty encouraging play by Genie overall, wasn't a loss due a mental collapse or errors, as it was for many matches last year. Solid game, just couldn't convert on those key chances. Hopefully she builds on this throughout the year.

I don't know, I'm pretty hopeful for Genie but that was a straight up choke. She's not going anywhere past the 40s in ranking if she can't beat someone she should, when she has control of the match, like we just saw. You just have to win matches like that. She's going to continue to be hampered with poor draws if she can't improve her ranking, and when you can't close out a match you should....disappointing to say the least.

I'm torn. You can tell she's grown in terms of her attitude and body language, which bodes well overall. It's about getting over that hump and using killer instinct in matches like tonight's.
The key takeaway is she means business now. She needs to play in as many tournaments as she can to continue building momentum.

I guess I'd just like to stop looking for moral victories. She's obviously in a significantly better place this year than 2015, but last year felt like the year to take moral victories as she worked her way back. This year I just wanna see the consistency of beating opponents she should, especially from a winning position. She's not guaranteed good draws, next two majors she could of course get Serena or Kerber in the first round. Just feels like a lost opportunity.

Why the hate for Coco? Just anti-Americanism?

Agreed, this was a match that Genie could have and should have won, she had multiple break points to put herself in a position to serve for the match and just couldn't get it done today.

Roger....don't ever leave us. I know eventually you will, but it's gonna be the saddest day in the history of the sport when we can't watch you anymore. That was another in a career full of flawless performances, 90 minutes of just pure joy to watch. Still seems highly unlikely he can run the table here, but if he does he'll probably have to beat five straight top 10 players to do it, which would obviously make it his greatest win ever which is saying something. But as much as I want another major (or 4), I don't need to see another one, just more of Roger playing is enough. If it's another year, great. 3 more years, yes please. Until he can no longer produce night's like tonight, I just hope he keeps going. I don't want it to ever end.

Is Coco someone Genie "should" beat? Coco's highest ranking was 29th last June. She has a tremendous serve and hits hard. Seems like a good player to me.

Not yet, talk to me if he beats Andy Murray. But I honestly no longer care if he wins another major or not, obviously I'd love to see it, but I'm not getting upset or disappointed anymore. I just wanna see Roger play for as long as he wants, so long as he can produce matches like this where he just plays the most beautiful tennis.
