Our "toe-drags per game" number would definitely go up!

Insider trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-...t-list~1037249
Lots of questions about Isles future after Capuano firing
Question if new owners will make major changes to front office - done lots of research into adding a president ala Shanahan
Talks about the tradebait list previously posted in this thread
Door potentially open for Shattenkirk trade - going to listen and potentially get something for him, because they might not be contenders this season
Over the summer Shattenkirk and Oilers didn't seem like a fit, but now he may be willing to go there and also other destinations that he didn't consider
Wings will try to re-sign Vanek before trying to trade him
Wings will wait another month before deciding to sell on other assets.
However, Tomas Jurco wants a chance to play and is available via trade but they won't give him away.
Jurco might be moved in next week with Helm coming back from injury
Patrick Sharp will likely be available if the Stars don't get back on track.

I do not want Shattenkirk heading to the Oilers under any circumstance.

I'd take a shot at Jurco, if the price is low enough. Could definitely be a bust, but a 4th or something and I'd take the shot.

I'd rather jurco than bouma.
We could have jurco with stajan and Hathaway, a potential scorer, two way forward and a grinder.

Any assets traded for Jurco will either go down the toilet when he gets claimed in the expansion draft, or you should include Ferland in the cost as if we protect Jurco rather than Ferland, Ferly will get claimed.

If the Oilers overpay Shattenkirk the way they did Lucic, then have at him

Wasn't Wideman #1 on that list earlier?
Saddens me to see him missing from that list.

I guess instead of modelling ourselves after the Blackhawks, we could just become the Blackhawks:
Bollig, Versteeg, Brouwer, Frolik, Sharp?

Bollig will never be a Flame again (hopefully).
As for Sharp, well, he's old and overpaid and plays the wrong wing and hasn't really done anything this season.

Treliving should go after Ryan Strome before Garth Snow gets fired.

Old is fine, based on how young our core is.
Sharp has struggled a little bit, but missed a huge chunk of the season being injured. His contract is up this season, so the expense of it doesn't matter.
Plus, he can also play center, and regularly plays RW.
He'd be a great trade deadline grab if we're in the mix.

This would be a good trade, I think Ryan Strome, would benefit a lot from getting off the ISlanders(well anyone would benefit from getting off that team). This is a trade with low risk/high reward.

I think it would be really interesting to see how the Oilers would plan to fit Shattenkirk under the cap when they need to re-sign Draisaitl (who should get paid more than Monahan) this summer and McDavid the next. Fayne is also still costing that team millions.

It's a shame Maroon still has one more year on his deal as he's playing himself into a very nice raise as well. Kris Russell will also likely command a raise in the offseason. As you say Draisaitl is going to command $6.5+ long term. The Oilers kind of have to win the cup this year or next as their window is going to close pretty fast as they will soon have the highest paid player in NHL history and a lot of $6 million+ players on the roster.
I would imagine it's a matter of time until they have to ship out RNH and Eberle to make room on the roster to keep their younger guys and get better on defense.

It would be tough to argue that Draisaitl should get more money than Monahan as he will have less goals and points during his ELC...
