Yeah, this isn't happening.

The Flames don't really have much to sell this year. I hope they are buyers even if they are out of it. It's time. I'll guess Poirier is the first one out.

It would only be for 18 games, and there are other options as well between Kulak/Wotherspoon if you're not wanting to push the two young D-men in other than for a cup of coffee (like Kylington was last year in game 82).

Similarly, you could throw Poirier out there instead of Janko/Shinkaruk if necessary as well.

The Flames have depth that they wouldn't be impacted much if they sell off a bunch of pieces as they are running for a playoff spot.

Also with Elliott, maybe him for Kyrou (the player the Blues selected with our 2nd last year)

While it may slightly hurt the chances at making the playoffs, I don't think it would impact it that severely as the likely candidates to trade are not key/core players.
I don't mind throwing forwards into the lineup but I don't believe those defensemen are ready at all.

I'm thinking a quiet trade deadline this year.

Flames are in the mix for playoffs so probably not selling outside of minor tweaks. And the players that the Flames would be willing to depart with (Wideman, Bouma) probably have little to no value.

Tough to add players of significance without running into salary cap issues.

So much depends on how the next month goes. If the Flames go on a tear then I can see them being buyers but if they stay in roughly the same position or drop, I think they'll be sellers. I don't think this is their year to make a serious run so I can see them selling now to help the future. At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone traded.

Kulak in the top 4 for a short stint is fine, but he has shown that he isn't ready for #6 regular duty night in and night out.

Like it or not, losing Wideman and replacing him internally at the moment makes the Flames worse. Maybe next season. Even then it is doubtful. Flames are likely to make a move to solidify their top 4 in the off-season after the expansion draft, not before. Flames trade Wideman before then only if they are out of the race.

I expect a deadline like 2015. Expecting to make the playoffs, the team will still move away from assets that aren't critical to success or part of the future, like Glencross. So I still predict Engelland gets moved, and maybe one of Versteeg or Bouma, although Bouma would likely be a pretty 'meh' type deal like the David Jones move last year

Elliott to Dallas for Hudler. Get Mony and Johnny going again. They need some time and space created for them, Hudler does that.

I'd say either Bouma or Wideman. I think Tkachuck, Ferland, and Hathaway made Bouma expendable. Wideman, is going to be gone no matter what. Wished he was gone sooner, but the reason why you see him doing way better in the past month or so is because he's finally figured out that this is his contract year. Otherwise, he'd be sitting in the dog house even more.

That'd be a good trade. Hudler was the glue between Gaudreau and Monahan. He's definitely an impact player for the Flames.

Are you two crazy? Did you watch Hudler play last year? Have you seen him play this year? The guy has got 5 points in 19 games and is averaging 12 minutes a night because the coach can't trust him.

Just bonkers to bring him back at this stage

13+ million dollars worth of elite forward needs Hudler glue...man this team's got some problems if that's true.

Yeah there's no question that Hudler really helped than line tick. But that Hudler doesn't exist anymore

That Hudler died at the hands of a Regehr crosscheck in the game that clinched them a playoff spot. Never to be seen again.

Hudler has been injured most of this year and hasn't had much time to build chemistry. Last year with the Flames, there was obvious pressure with trade rumors/potential trade and a contract year. When Hudler first came to Calgary it took time to adjust and was also dealing with his fathers death IIRC. He is obviously susceptible to such off ice things. I bet he would mesh well again with Mony and Johnny. I really doubt it happens, I still think Mony and Johnny are too young and could really benefit from a veteran Hudler type. Not Chaisson, I really thought Versteeg could be that guy. I'm surprised that didn't/isn't working.
