The theatre is completely destroyed. Thankfully as far as I know everyone got out but can't confirm that. The fire spread so fast and they barely got out of the theatre. Would have been a disaster if they got trapped.

There were no fire alarms and the fire was really close to trapping people in the theatre where there was a Micheal Jackson show going on and obviously packed.
Being burnt to death at Micheal Jackson show could only be more ironic if you were drinking Pepsi at the time!

Not funny dude. My sister and law and her baby had to literally run feet away from fire to escape.

Apologies, I assumed no one was hurt.

Scary stuff, if I remember right the roof of the lobby area is that reed material and really high. Hope there remain no injuries or worse.

Hopefully not a harbinger, got engaged there almost exactly 5 years ago. Great resort, feel bad for the people who work there and all the guests who have had their vacations impacted.

Another crazy clip of the fire. I could not imagine something going wrong at one of these resorts. As long as everything goes to plan, things are good, but even when there are minor issues, the whole place tends to go into chaos...

Just amazing how the hotel is sweeping this under the rug. They even came with a statement pretty much praising themselves and that all procedures were followed. Nobody knew what to do and nobody was helping anyone but themselves.

There were zero fire alarms in the theatre. Or anywhere else on the resort or at least ones that were working.

They also stated the resort was not effected much and that all normal operations are continuing...yeah right. The entire theatre and main bar is gone and extensive damage to the lobby.

Sounds like standard operating procedure for a Mexican resort that relies heavily on tourism.

Also, I've stayed there and was through that building a lot. This also could have happened just as a bunch of guests were arriving. When we went, we got there on a Saturday night.

But are normal operations continuing? I have been there a couple times and there are more bars to drink at, and lots to do aside from the theater. I'm not sure what you would have them do at this point after the fire?

From the information I was given (as a travel agent) the hotel is continuing with normal operations. Guests at the Tulum are checking in at the Coba and utilizing the entertainment theatre at the Coba. No guest rooms were affected. Apparently the lobby is already being dry walled but I'm not sure I believe it. They've given a one to two month time for rebuild - but, again, not sure on how true that actually is (and not just posturing for the industry).

Yeah it was real fun running for your life. Hopefully you have kids and a wife and you are one day in a theatre and a fire breaks out and you have to run for your life and you guys barely make it out LOL.

Well I'm sure normal operations are continuing. Minus the theatre and main bar and lobby. There was zero mention of this in the release and people reading it will think it was a small fire that didn't effect the resort much.

And they blatantly lied about their response to the fire. So maybe that's standard operating procedure to not have any response or have any fire alarms but I've noticed there are a lot of guests reading this thread that probably found this thread through Google and they deserve to know what really happened and what's really damaged and can then make their decision to go there or not based on truth not lies by the resort.

There's a post about this on FB Calgary Travel group.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/117990798228966/

People that arrived yesterday say normal operations for everything and they've started repairs.

I for one am shocked that a Mexican all-inclusive is not being fully up front about a situation that occurred. Shocked.

I'm glad your family got out safely, calgaryblood. It's too bad you lost your sense of humour in the blaze though.

Yeah that place is huge. There's 2 other lobby's, lots of bars, a dozen restaurants, another theatre. Aside from being terrifying for anyone in their at the time I can't see this effecting too much

Wow dude, it doesn't have to be so Black and White. You can still find humour in it.

Also after what you just said, you need to take a good hard look at the Man in the Mirror.
