My only gripe on the shootout is the predictable lineup. Yes you want your star and more skilled players in that position but once goalies see shooter tendancies its hard to really have any kind of an edge. As Flames fans we know, Johnny likes the back hand 5 hole deke and Monny likes going stick side, so do opposing goaltenders, it seemed like Talbot knew what was coming both times.

I wouldn't have minded throwing a curve ball at Talbot and going something along the lines of Frolik, Brouwer, Tkachuk.

The Oilers have been to OT 11 times in their past 20 games and won 6 in the S/O in that time

Sucks to lose the season series to the Oilers. Effort was there tonight but I feel that it's unacceptable to lose the season series. Oh well, hopefully it'll be a loss that'll put more of a spark of urgency

I would have put Wideman in the shootout he can simply blast the puck would have probably scored. Just a feeling.

Depends.

If it's a 12+ attempt shootout (like The Schlemko), then winning it is awesome.
If it's one of these, where the shootout is decided after three attempts, why even bother?

I think the WJC has the right idea with the five-round shootout.

He'd probably stop, turn around, wind up and shoot it at the ref.

they have lost one season series in a decade...if they Flames can pull of a win next week they are 1-2-1. Not the end of the world, unacceptable might be a bit extreme

Nice to see Elliot have a game though. Especially after that mess to start the season against Edmonton.

So essentially their lead on the Flames in the standings can be chalked up to out skill-competitioning opponents. As shown tonight these teams are definitely on the same level right now. Only thing is most of the Flames core is largely underperforming this season.

If you're going to that, why not 10.minutes of three on three first?

10 mins 3 on 3 is the answer...honestly I would rather 2 on 2 over a SO

still waiting for the NBA to replace OT with a game of HORSE

Gary Bettman isn't smart enough to think of something like that.

A slam dunk or free throw shooting contest

I would totally be in favour of a 10 minute 3 on 3. How many games wouldn't be finished in that time? You'd have to think very few.

This was a fun game. Tight checking, close chances. Felt like a tie. The shootout kinda ruins it, imo.

The Oilers need at least 4 to 5 years with luck and wisdom to become legit Cup contender.

The officiating sure helped out the Oilers to a good degree and they got away with a lot of holding & interference throughout the game, but I can't believe how decent and organized they looked defensively.
