I guess its more of how to do things such as cup holders that are durable/strong. I know mdf slatwall is garbage but would having it solid wood hold better? Can you buy things like a rail system to just install into the wood directly like some of these companies do?

It's those types of things that make me wonder if buying a table would be a better bet. I've never seen a table in person so I wouldn't know if these manufacturers are any better than getting it built from a local carpenter.

https://playtable.xyz/faq/

PlayTable is a tabletop gaming console made for playing with a group of people. It's like the Netflix for board and card games - imagine having instant access to a library of board games, the ability to learn them in minutes, and create and customize your own versions. Oh and you can use physical pieces, cards, and your mobile phone with your PlayTable.

Played it at comic con last year and it was pretty fun. Games go by quickly.

Got mine too, awesome job by Roxley. I'm not a huge abstract games fan but I really like their use of the god powers to change up the gameplay in interesting ways.

Game was a big hit with the family - it's a lot of fun. My son has a massive Percy Jackson obsession right now so the theme was right up his alley!

surferguy might be able to help you out with a custom gaming table, but looking at his work I imagine he isn't cheap (cause it looks so good!). This forum really needs an @ function to tag people in threads. Get with the times photon!!!

Yeah, I'd be interested in what it would cost to make locally. I agree that the prices quoted by US companies seem pretty exorbitant given that as the guy above shows, you can do a decent job for a couple hundred bucks (especially if you don't need a freaking TV embedded in the middle of the table). I mean, I wouldn't even need the cupholders and pencil spots. Just a 4x8 table with removable insert(s) to turn it into a dining room table. Not that dining room tables are cheap to begin with, I guess.

I have done some base research on this for myself, one of these winters I will build a gaming table, but one of the coolest and simplest ideas I saw was instead of using fabric stretched out like a pool table for the gaming surface get a custom 'mouse pad material' cut out made for your table. Easy to remove and clean and very nice to play/roll on.

Although this isn't cheap, ultra short throw projectors like this http://www.lg.com/us/home-video/lg-PH450UG-projector or the new Sony product can be placed on a table as an ad-hoc presentation or gaming surface. Unfortunately they are hard to get in Canada, but I ordered one from Amazon US yesterday which should show up next week.

I would expect in the next couple years these will become more popular and easy to get. They have the definite advantage of portability, so you can just take it anywhere. I intend to use it for tabletop gaming so I'll report back on how good it is for the purpose if anyone is interested.

PS: This is the Sony one, which looks a bit nicer but is also $999 US list price. http://www.sony.com/electronics/projector/lspx-p1

That is a good idea. Where do you get something like that, though?

Anyone have any experience with this game? It's getting good buzz but 8 people to play could be a tough sell.

It was the only non video game to make Total Biscuit's games of 2016.

Seems interesting - fun couples game maybe.

Secret Hitler was loads of fun. I played tonight with a group that mainly consisted of non board game players and everyone was having a really good time. It's a very simple game with a super complicated sounding manual but dont get turned off by it. It's not that hard to play and after a couple rounds we were off the races, and after a game or two strategy started to develop

I played two games of Great Western Trail on Thursday night - pretty fun game! We had a good time. Would be great with 4 players I think.

I bought Food Chain Magnate yesterday and am expecting it to arrive Wednesday. Going to try to play it on Saturday.
