That screen capture is in the article itself. I don't see how one could possibly miss it.

Easy enough to miss through the shower of sparks from all the axe grinding.

Haha it makes her claim that it doesn't exist even worse.

Delete the tweet and lie. Very Trump-esque thing to do?

I'm not sure if it is on purpose or not, but you have to have a Facebook account to even view her page. Doesn't seem very open for an MP...

Spending is the same as the year before, isn't that the definition of being under control?

How much is spending up under his entire tenure, not one specific year? Wouldn't that be more applicable?

I believe property taxes have increased almost 50% since Nenshi took over as mayor.

My impression, not greatly informed, is that Nenshi has backed up the civil service and refused to cut despite everything going on in the city. He says they'll maintain services and that's what the public wants.

I'm not so sure about that, I think people are looking to at least hear they are looking to find efficiencies or make cuts somewhere.

I don't think "Spendshi" is an accurate term for him, but there is a reason his opponents have attacked him with that.

EDIT: And hasn't he presided over the largest municipal tax hikes in Calgary history?

I am pretty sure a three-year budget plan was put in place when Bronconnier was still around, Nenshi got elected into the middle of that.

Bronco's tenure wasn't exactly belt tightening either.

I'm in the wrong line of work.

I can fire off a few tweets a day for that.

Plus he was granted 300K by the city in legal costs to cover his lawsuit as well?

On the positive side, the 2016 tax rate (while up from 2015) is the 2nd lowest in the last 4 years and is frozen for 2017.

There was a big increase from 2010-2013, but it's remained close since then. I believe during the most recent budget talks the forecast was to make service cuts in 2018 and lower the tax rate.

So, he may have earned the "spendshi" label at one point, but even despite the recession this city has come a long way since 2010. I'd say it was money well spent.

I thought he and council had no say in their salaries and that he donates a decent chunk of his?

I would agree.

hes spent money, but I'd argue he did not spend that money frivolously, he always had a plan.

That is correct - I was just trying to figure out when that policy started. Can't quite find it.

Doesn't council approve members' salaries, often after it going before a citizen committee? That's how it's done in most places.
