The fact that Chiarelli would make that deal with an 18yo kid is absolutely open to criticism though.

Yeah, don't understand that one if that is the case. Also, not the best precedent for a team.

So oilers. So e=ng. It's perfect.

I think it's because it would have removed Puljujarvi from the Oilers roster for potentially 10-12 days. He'd have missed 5 or 6 NHL games in that time, and so that means keeping him on the bench or in the pressbox for an extra 5 or 6 games once the tournament was over, in order to burn that RFA year

Iīve seen this a few times on different sites and I just donīt get it. He has 96 career games played, 6 goals, 9 assists and is a -18 with 77 PIMS. I know heīs big, tough, skates well and has potential, and as to be expected his defensive play is still weak given his age. I donīt know how you can pay that $5MM. Letīs hope they do

Oilers logic:
Top 10 draft pick = Qualifies for the 6x6 contract

He won't be getting $5 million. No way he gets more than Matta or Vatanen on a long term deal.
But I think he is bridged.

He'll get paid for potential and because he's a rare commodity in Edmonton a decent young defenseman.

Your point makes absolute sense.
Here is where it is full oilers though; wouldn't you want the potential development of arguably the most Oiler valuable asset not getting regular ice time to get a chance to play with the WJC team? confidence, leadership, growth, and all of the other things that you get from leading a team in games that actually matter? Those 10-12 days, or 3 or 4 games (depending upon when Finland played and the required preparation), to me would be priceless development especially as the NHL took a Christmas break, with the greasers staying at home. the wjc was in Toronto and Montréal, so even travel wasn't that big a deal.
wouldn't a good agent want the player (an asset) to increase in value to actually be able to leverage during contract negotiations (now with one less RFA year)? wouldn't a good GM want his player to get better and contribute as soon as possible?
full oiler.

So apparently, according to HF, Puljuiarvi was sent down because he needs to "be broken down and then rebuilt the Canadian way." Can't make this stuff up.

Please tell me it was a member of oilers management that said this and not just some nobody posting on a forum.

Oiler fans are well known for overvaluing their prospects.

To be fair I think pretty well every single fanbase overvalues their prospects. Last year there were posters here that said they wouldn't trade Ferland for Druin straight across.

This is the wrong thread for discussions of "fair." And it is bad enough when Oilers fans constantly deflect any criticism of their favourite team in this thread to make irrelevant comparisons to the Flames and their fans. It is intolerable (and incomprehensible) when Flames fans do the same thing.
In short, what does this have to do with Edmonton being no good?

Effectively, Enroth goes for a 7th rounder 2 years out and McIlhenny.
Gustavsson goes to Stockton to play in the rain...I mean to guide Puliparti around downtown Stockton.

I just watched the Principe and Hall interview on Sportsnet, and I have to say that I think Taylor Hall has gotten smarter since leaving Edmonton
