I hope the Flames stay put this year or at most give up a 4th rounder for a depth defenceman. They are too good to give up on veterans like Versteeg but not good enough to make a big deadline splash.

Would we ever take a look at Cammalleri, 50% retained, to play with JG and SM? That's 2.5 million.

Would that be 50% retained for the two years remaining after this? Can't see why Jersey would be keen about that.

Curtis McElhinney has been placed on waivers by #CBJ. Markus Hannikainen is reassigned to Cleveland.
Will be interesting to see if anyone claims him .924 sv% and 2.39gaa in 7 games this season and a $800k cap hit. But he has been horrible statistically before this season.
Some speculation the Oilers might claim him.

The guy is a capable NHL backup who would have helped this team last year. And is playing much better than one of of our goalies right now. Mind you, not suggesting we claim him.

How is he better than any of our goalies in a 7 game sample?

Well the Oilers have waived Gustavsson, probably in advance of putting a claim on McEhlinney.

A 7 game sample, playing for the hottest team in the NHL
Honestly, I think goalie conversations take the cake for the silliest conversations of any players. Even worse than prospects.

Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Expect Laurent Brossoit to be called by up by #Oilers tmw or Wednesday, once Gustavsson clears.
McElhinney claim unlikely, I am told.

Without doing too much research (read: none) into the draft class, we're now passed the world juniors and there's absolutely nobody with any buzz around them whatsoever. It's like Patrick is still the guy by default because he's been hurt and nobody else has done anything.
So with that in mind and literally nothing else, I say put our first on the table if we're getting a Landeskog back.

I wonder if the Islanders would part with Ryan Strome. No doubt they go with the 4-4-1 expansion protection system because they have some good defenseman, and since Strome has struggled since his once promising 50pt season, he doesn't look like he'll receive protection. They are also likely to lose Ladd, or De Haan.
Since they're a lousy team this year, they may want to start over and get some prospects and picks. If they want expansion protected players, the Flames could offer Magiapane or Klimchuck or a pick.

If the Flames can get Ryan Strome from the Islanders, that would solve couple of problems, we get a RW and a centre, you can then have Strome or Bennett has options for the RW and centre.
Klimchuck, 2nd round, Jokipa(spelling) or something.
The Islanders are horrible at developing players, they destroyed their share.
I wonder when the trading will start? The trade deadline is too late in the season.

I suggested the Flames look at Strome a month back when he was getting healthy scratched.
The issue with the Islanders is they don't make good trade partners with the Flames.
The Islanders don't want to "start over." Tavares is 1.5 years away from UFA, if he perceives the Islanders are headed to another rebuild, it will be even more likely he leaves. In that case they may as well trade Tavares now.
If anything, they will want to package Strome with other assets/players to improve their team now and that means a top 6 forward that can play with Tavares. Of course that might not be possible, but Strome has gone hot recently with 6 points in his last 6 games so his stock might rise again.
If the Islanders do decide to trade him for prospects would Klimchuk or Manigpane be of interest to the Islanders with prospects like Barzal, Beaulivier, Dal Colle, Ho-Sang, and Bellows already in the system? Doesn't seem likely.
The Islanders do seem to be thin on d-men and goalie prospects right now, so the pieces that might interest them the most are Kylington, Andersson, Hickey, Fox, and Gillies. Depending on how you feel about those prospects, they might be too much to give up for a reclamation project like Strome.
if I was Treliving, I would offer a conditional 3rd round pick that could improve to a 2nd based on Strome's performance (similar to the Yakupov deal). But as mentioned, the Islanders probably explore a ton of different options before they take that deal.
Also as a side note, the Islanders aren't losing Ladd in the expansion draft unless he waives his NMC.

the way Ladd has played, I think the islanders would welcome LV taking him in the expansion draft if it was possible. 12 points in 38 games with a 5.5 mil cap hit for the next 6 years.... The islanders should convince him to waive his NMC for the expansion draft so they can protect someone else because there is no way a team takes him on.

How do you convince a guy who just signed by his choice a contract with a NMC to go to an expansion team? Can't see it.

That hurts my head already being completely fictional.
If it happened it might turn into a stroke.
