Brodie was monumentally worse than Wideman tonight. Blaming Wideman constantly for Brodie's poor decisions with the puck isn't holding TJ accountable enough. He's simply been poor with and without the puck for 95% of the season so far.
|
Him and Wideman have an awful pairing, if it's not Brodie it's Wideman. They just aren't good together, even when the Flames were hot they were still awful. Brodie I can give leeway, Wideman I have no patients as I wish we got rid of him last year but oh well we are stuck with him. Still think some youthful enthusiasm on this blue line would be nice. Rasmus is better than Kulak offensively already. I know he's young but I'm pretty sure he's better than what we have 4 through 7. Whatever call me crazy, would like to see some of the Stockton guys get looks. This team isn't playing well enough where everyone is a lock to start.

Can we please stop forcing this Johnny/Mony combo! Put Mony with Versteeg and put Johnny with Bennett. I think they finally did for a few shifts in the third and that's when Bennett had that chance. Also other than Chad and Dougie I also thought Bennett had a decent game too, he won some puck battles for sure. Flames I think were the better team they just weren't connecting in the offensive zone. Goals against, one was just a beauty by Buff, Gio could have done better but I wouldn't fault him entirely. Wheeler goal, no excuses, terrible give away by Brodie.

Sucks to see Brodie have such a bad game tonight as it looked like his game was rounding back into form the last couple.
The Backlund line doesn't score tonight and we get shut out.
One of the worst games I've seen Johnny play in a Flames jersey and where the hell is Sean Monahan? I don't even remember the last time he scored a goal.

Yea, it's incredibly frustrating, especially 5 on 5. Feels like it's a major uphill battle any time the opposition gets a lead, even when it's only 1 goal. Seems like the forwards are constantly over-thinking everything when they get into the offensive zone, and it results in dumb passes into skates or sticks, and then bam-- turnover, and it's an odd man rush the other way.
The only time this team ever looks dangerous is when they're on the PP.

Exactly what I think. This team was playing bad with Mony and Johnny together, played well when apart, now playing bad when together again. They've done very well together but not well enough where the team has to try and force them together even if it's clearly not working. Like I said before they are not the Sedins you can separate them if they clearly aren't working well together.

There's no conspiracy against the Flames. The Wideman effect isn't real. Let's stop blaming the refs. The Flames could have had 0 penalties called against them tonight and they still would have lost.
|
Even calls can easily by explained as a symptom of the Flames adjusting to the reality that they'll get called harder for aggressive play; this is a weak bit of apologism for the poor officiating - the criteria being different for each team doesn't need to result in a different number of penalties called: if the Flames committed 8 rule infractions versus the Jets committing 12 and both only received 4 penalties, there would be a tilt. I have a hard time believing a person could watch tonight's game and believe there wasn't a tilt.
This is not to say the penalties would've made a difference tonight - I'm saying in the case that the tilt is consistent that players would be demoralized and Backlund's penalty is symptom of this; he's a guy who averaged a minor penalty every 5 games in his career and only one every 6 games this season...

I'm going to say it: Gaudreau was a stinking pile of crap that game. He turned the puck over nearly 20 times, and generated next to no offense.
Brodie had the worst turnovers at worse times, but overall he played a good game.
Also, did Monahan even play tonight. I don't remember him even touching the puck.
Engelland was also noticeably terrible tonight.
So much for Hatha-win.

Chiasson is no Hudler. We need a finisher on that top line. We don't necessarily need someone who can drive the play, but we need someone who can fill-in when one of the other two are off their game

Silver linings:
- Johnson looking good again
- still in a playoff spot
- Brouwer ahead of schedule

Thought we would be consistently better. Certainly expected more from our higher priced talent. If not for BFT line we are not a playoff team.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I thoroughly enjoy games more when we score vs. ones that we don't.

I hope we split Monahan and Gaudreau up again when Brouwer is back

Really outside of the Backlund line there hasn't been a lot to like all season. Not a very likeable team this season and not very exciting to watch.

Flames are not a finished product or a contending team...even the top teams lose games the Flames certainly aren't above losing to a team with a whole 2 less wins on the season
it was a bad game they basically handed it to the Jets (who weren't really good either)
they are a bubble team
by the reactions around here it seems to me some fans expectations are too high

Quick name a game in the last month when you can say our best players were our best players? When will our best players be our best players?

Monahan had two decent chances early, both from the slot. Got worse along with the rest of the team.
Even the consistent players like Backlund and Tkachuk had bad nights.

Agreed. And the couple of offensive chances he did get, he couldn't bury them. For a $6 million player, he's not exactly earning his paycheck of late. Gulutzan really needs to split up him and Monahan again. They were both so much more effective when they were separated.
