Yeah, that game was amazing to view right up until the shoot out. Should have been decided based on the next goal with the play format, not a skills competition. Ruined what could have been a classic.

I think all the players on both teams should be proud. That was a really great game.

What a game. Coulda watched that all night.

The better team won. They just looked like such a solid 5 man unit out there. Lots of pressure and lots of dangerous plays. The Canadians, on the other hand, kind of looked like a bunch of individuals trying to carry the puck in 1-on-2 every time.

Canada had 50 shots and had a slight edge in play

either team could have won but I wouldn't say the best team won...especially the way they won it

Settling these games in shootouts is especially dumb when you consider alternatives like 3 on 3 which likely would have ended it sooner than a shootout would and is more of a team based result.

You'd think if the shootout was so good the Largest Sport World Championship would use it.

Oh wait. It does.

Didn't really care who won and just finished watching the game and wow what a game! Canada played real good I thought and I didn't see much of the individual plays that others saw.

One thing about Canada's game I didn't like was Strome. I don't watch him at all other than in this tournament but is he always so one dimensional? He kind of reminds me of Bobby Ryan. All he does is shoot the puck.

Just wondering who are the last goalies to win the WJC and the Memorial Cup? Must be a very short list.

Let's see. Memorial Cup winning goalies and their WJC-20 championships:

2016 (London): Tyler Parsons (2017 gold)
2013 (Halifax): Zach Fucale (2015 gold)
2008 (Spokane): Dustin Tokarski (2009 gold)
1997 (Hull): Martin Biron (1997 gold)
1993 (Sault Ste. Marie): Dan Cloutier (1995 gold)
1991 (Spokane): Trevor Kidd (1990 AND 1991 gold)

I also was unimpressed with Strome throughout the tourney and in particular last night. He's got a good shot but that's about it, net I think he is detrimental to the team. Gives the puck away a ton and telegraphs his plays.

So in the celebration where everyone was swearing and yelling, you have an issue with the kid kissing the camera? I thought the people who get offended that easy would for sure have issues with the swearing...Personally, I'm fine with how everyone acted especially team USA's head coach. I thought both teams played hard and showed a lot of respect for each other. I loved it when the goalies were on the wrong sides for the shoot out so they switched and gave a little glove tap to one another. I love that there wasn't any showboating in the game and there seemed to be a lot of intensity but no animosity.

Thing is I thought the same thing about the glove tap, thought it was cool so I rewound it to watch again. Hart tried to tap but Parsons didn't even acknowledge him. There was no glove tap by Parsons. Just an observation.

I do agree that typically a playoff game that goes longer than one OT is typically extremely boring as teams go into shells of self preservation just trying to conserve energy. That said going to a shootout is a tough way to end the game especially if one of the teams is a shootout darling team.

A shootout is an offensive way to settle a junior B pre-season game. It should never determine the champion of any event or league that aspires to legitimacy. The IIHF and NHL need to pull their heads out of their asses and turf it immediately.

for everyone slagging on the boys for kissing cameras or whatever, remember, these boys range in age from 17 to 20 and they just won a world championship.

to me losing in the shootout is not much different than missing your check and having a guy score in overtime

You find multiple overtimes in the NHL playoffs extremely boring? I must be watching the wrong league.

i dont understand why they went from a 20 minute 4 on 4 overtime in previous years back to 5 on 5 this year

Yeah, I don't like the shoot out. Hate seeing a team game turn into the individual skills competition. IIHF annoys me when after the initial round let players repeat. Still hell of a game though.
