They literally made this disabled individual drink from a toilet, I think this white person was dehumanized. So I guess the unfortunate answer is the real reality...

Do you care that groups are marginalized based on their race or not? Or is it just a big joke to you?

A lot of people around here could do well by falling into a pile of his articles, books etc.
It's too bad he doesn't have a CP account along with others like him.

Regardless of who is more marginalized, this is still a hate crime.
The response by the police and the media show just how afraid they are of potentially offending someone. They are either pandering to the black community, trying to portray themselves as progressive before the current justice department investigation is completed or advancing the claim that you can't be racist towards whites. Regardless of their motive, it's a disgusting response and will do far more harm than good.

Kind of assumed this was your outlook. I actually agree that people would benefit from reading Coates's perspectives, but not from adopting them (largely for the reasons set out here: http://www.lrb.co.uk/v37/n23/thomas-...ms/loaded-dice).
In contrast, you would benefit from listening to Glenn Loury talk about race issues: http://bloggingheads.tv/programs/glenn-show.

Re the chatter on institutionalized racism stemming from the elites, can anyone name one law or statute (ie institutionalized) that devalues or limits someone based on their race in the US? Just one?

These 4 awful human beings are now being charged with hate crimes (on top of kidnapping, unlawful restraint and battery with a deadly weapon), likely due to public pressure after the regular suspects in the media generally tried to bury it and brush it off as not being a big deal or racially motivated.

No. Everything got better just like that overnight once the Jim Crow laws were abolished.
Supreme Court: Institutional Racism Is Real
In extending ‘disparate impact’ reasoning to housing cases, the court acknowledges that discrimination comes from more than just individual bad actors—it stems from a system that stacks the deck against black people.

The author of the piece nails it here:
Quote:
This nonsense, a fantasy that flattens psychological and material difference within and between groups, serves only to bolster Coates’s sense of injury. The late Albert Murray, whose under-appreciated masterpiece, The Omni-Americans, is one of the best commentaries on modern African-American life, argued in the 1970s that ‘no matter how noble your mission, when you oversimplify the reasons why a poor or an oppressed man lies, cheats, steals, betrays, hates, murders or becomes an alcoholic or addict, you imply that well-to-do, rich and powerful people don’t do these things. But they do.’ Of course they do.

Aside from pushing forward a clearly biased agenda, what point are you trying to make here?
How is this relevant to BLM in any way? Because it involves black people?
