No ****. If a chick wants to be a fire man she should start acting like a man. Get used to seeing balls, chugging beers, watching football and being conservative (like real men). She should stop shaving her legs too while she's at it.

I was watching Global Vancouver this morning for some odd reason and saw this report. The way they made it sound was this move was being made more to prevent women from wearing panties or thongs or whatever not so much to curb what the guys were wearing in the firehouse.

This is extremely silly.
Dress code (or undress code, if you will) or not, there's no need for taxpayer-funded ginches. Unless they're fire-######ent ginches, which doesn't appear to be the case.

There's much more to the story though... the Richmond Fire Department has been rocked by discrimination suits lately that have had suicides and all sorts of calamity attached to it.... This is obviously a reaction to it.
I think standard issue ginch is overkill, but if the shiz in the story below is accurate, I hope they do take measure to take out the harrassment in the department, period. Sounds like a frat boy mentality there.
(it's an independant site, but I recall CBC also had articles on this)
http://dominionpaper.ca/canadian_news/2006/05/05/bc_firefig.htm
Also here is a story about how the harassment is widespread, including of it's male members. Sounds like on the job bullying....

I find this quote quite offensive.

Stupid or not, $16K is really not a lot of money one way or the other.
It is really cheap if it prevents a lawsuit

Either way, how is this going to help with stopping sexual harassment? Or any harassment for that matter?

Wow. Pssst....you might want to tone down the sensitivity meter there. This is the internet remember.
Meanwhile, not sure if this required its own thread or not- so a bit of a derail here in hopes to continue the thread. But on the radio the other day (105 I believe..) they were talking about on the drive to work how currently Calgary has 1,100 firefighters today- with a population of just over 1,000,000.
And that in 1980, the city had 1,000 firefighters. So lets see...
26 years.....100 new firefighters hired for a population increase of approximately 400,000 people...
they then moved onto to say that the City won't let the firehalls hire any possible new candidates, despite there being about 300 people ready to become new firefighters.
Something is screwed up here.
