Really? Do we really need to start yet another No Good thread and add Toronto to that list? McDavid vs. Mathews - too early to tell. What about Laine? Come on now, media is getting stupid these days.
It's the latest two first overall picks. One is second in points and the other is second in goals, both are 19. Of all the fluff and non-sense that could be and is discussed by media, this argument has to be one of the best. Too early to tell? Of course, that's the whole point of a discussion now pretty much.
"Hey Iggy3x who do you think might have the best chance to win the Stanley Cup this year?"
"It's too early to tell. We'll know in June!"
At one point I have to wonder why someone would be on a hockey discussion board at all and not just look at the final scores each night.
Ah yes. How silly of me. I should have realized that an amazing 19-12-7 record so far this season would easily erase a league worst 298-398-41-49 record over the last 10 seasons of non-playoff oiler hockey which included an unprecedented 4 1st overalls in a 6 year span.
I guess after 10 years of that, having 19 wins and 19 losses in January must look like a dynasty in the making to a fan of the "no-goods".
This is an impressive feat. To be 100 games under fake 500 over 10 years is amazing. I mean bad teams have fake 500 records. But to average 10 games under fake 500 per year is something I don't think will ever be repeated. If you tried to build a terrible cap team each year it would actually be difficult to be this bad this consistently.
This 10 year run should be celebrated.

Laine will score the most goals, McDavid will have the most assists (points), and Matthews will make the playoffs.

You got me there! I like forums as there are lots of discussion on hockey. Some are quite intelligent, others not so much. For sports writers, I have a higher bar for them. Articles from Duha are usually quite good with unique points. But I just find the two articles in question from Edmonton and Toronto are both banters from forums, its a waste of time to read. I hope writers are held to a higher standard by their editors and publishers.
Back to hockey - I think Mathews will be like a Francis. McDavid like a Modano and Laine will be another pure goal scorer - maybe a Selanne. I am excited to watch all three players for years to come. If Tkachuk can turn into a Roenick, that would be awesome.
Maybe it doesn't matter the way the Oilers are seeming ruining him, but if Puljujarvi is still on the NHL roster for the next Oilers game, this season will count as one of the 7 accrued seasons towards UFA.
They could of course avoid it by sending him to the AHL, but it seems they don't want to do that.

Gotta think he told the Oilers if they try and send him down he will go back to Europe?

That muffin he scored on Elliott is his only goal on the season. For a big guy that seemed ready he is not really making a mark at all.

I thought I heard something about how they had to offer Puljujarvi back to his Finnish team before they could send him down to the AHL.
They will send him back right before 40 games of benchings, 4th line minutes and little productivity. They didnīt even let him go the WJC which would have been good for his development, given how he has struggled this year. It is, after all, the Oiler way.
