Andersson was outside his crease and collided with Vanek's skates causing him to fall.
Think they made the right call.

That was a hell of an OT.
I hate it, but that Matthews fellow seems to be pretty good and has a flair for the dramatic.

I don't hate it at all! Flames fan forever, every other team is secondary to me but some more than others. As much as everyone hates the center of the hockey universe known as Toronto (according to them atleast ) I honestly don't think there could be a better thing happening for the league right now than what's happening in Toronto. They are overdue and deserve a product like they're are seeing this year with the rookies. I still think they are a outside shot at the playoffs this year and are in desperate need of 2 top 4 experienced Dmen but man are they fun to watch.

There was a scoring error in this game.
NHL.com credited the Red Wings 3rd goal to #21 Tomas Tatar but it was actually scored by #71 Dylan Larkin.

I also really enjoyed the Heritage Classic at McMahon. Of course, the Flames winning the game 4-0 may have had a lot to do with that. I also do not need to go to another one, but probably would go if the Flames were playing in the event.

The NHL IS going to try to get the Winter Classic at Busch Stadium in...1100hrs MST start...65% chance of rain, will play in light rain, can be stopped by officials at any time...if stopped, will be considered an "Official" game any time after 2 periods completed, and conditions deteriorate, with 2 points to the team leading after 2. If tied after stoppage, the teams get a point each, and a shootout would ensue, IF the officials deem the ice good enough for shootout. If the ice is deemed UNPLAYABLE, even for the Shootout, the shootout for the 3rd point would occur at the UC on Feb 26, PRIOR to Blues at Hawks, with the Blues being considered the "home" team for the shootout (option to go first).

Again, standing by my OP...it is ridiculous to have a non-exhibition played in less than controlled conditions.

I beg your pardon in advance, here at CalPuck, for this rant...but...I feel compelled to unload...
This Blackhawk fan really despises these games on the regular season NHL schedule...save it for that OTHER useless exhibition, the NHL All-Star game.
These stupid gimmick games are bad enough in Canada, where frozen pond hockey IS traditional...it is arrogance itself, when these cash grab games are played in climate areas that FREEZING THE ICE is a problem. It is also unfortunate, that the Blackhawks are one of the premier gate draws, and are playing regularly in these ridiculous contests, and have to suffer both the risk of injury, to Blackhawk players, and the degradation in quality of play, due to sub-optimal ice. ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS THAT THE 'HAWKS ARE A SUPERIOR GATE DRAW THE SPEED AND PRECISION AT WHICH THEIR OFFENSE OPERATES...crappy ice negates their very style, essentially, making these abominations a "throwaway" game. This is extremely unfair to the Blackhawks and their fans, especially when matched up against a clutch and grab "heavy" rival such as the Blows, where quality of ice won't disrupt their O-zone speed or passing, to the same degree.
Outdoor games should be relegated to mere exhibitions, and THIS fan would be happy NEVER to see another NHL game slowed down, in quality, because of Sun, Snow, Rain, Glare, Wind, or any other factor that would NOT exist in the controlled environment of a NHL arena. Sure, some arenas do have lesser quality ice than others, but, absent are the variations or changes in conditions that even simply switching ends in an outdoor game can entail.
|
I read somewhere that the best ice for an outdoor game was actually in LA at Dodger Stadium believe it or not. Apparently that night was the same temperature as the inside of most NHL arenas so the ice quality was as good as any NHL rink.
I also believe every outdoor game should be played at night with the lights on.

That sounds gimmicky as hell. Why not just have a coin toss?

Man it would suck if these guys waited their whole lives to play in an outdoor game and then couldn't to due to unforeseen circumstances 👀

Chin up, Lou, it wasn't really an outdoor game anyway.

So true. I was actually annoyed they called it the Heritage Classic since it was just a regular season game played in a large indoor arena.

I agree with that last comment. It looks fantastic.
And don't agree that all non exhibition games need to be played under controlled conditions. This is about the history of the game and hockey has always been played outside.

The players and coaches are praising the ice conditions at Busch, marching to the tune that the NHL brass is playing...but...there can be NO DOUBT that the only goal of the game, so far, was ENTIRELY DUE TO THE CRAPPY ICE. Kempny fired a routine, unscreened, point shot, early in the game, the Blues D even had a stick ready to block the shot, but, about 2 feet IN FRONT of the D-Man's stick, the puck, for no apparent reason, EXCEPT, bad ice, bounced over the blocking stick, and thence fluttered over Allen's trapper.
So far, the conditions have gifted the 'Hawks a goal...it would be extremely unfair to St. Loo, if that "bounce" affects them in the playoff race, somehow.

Bad bounces happen in every sport, all the time. It's not unfair.

But both teams have the exact same advantage/disadvantage due to bouncy ice/glare/cold etc. The puck could have hopped over either goalies glove. The only time these should be of concern is when player safety is at risk.
The outdoor games are awesome, and the inconsistent bounces don't actually hinder the quality of the game IMO. I consider it a feature of the ODR and it makes it exciting. One team has to win and one team has to lose, so it doesn't affect the standings any more than a regular indoor game would.

Croflames...respectfully disagree...I've noticed, in the 2nd, the puck is being overskated regularly, sure, it's both teams struggling with the puck, but, IMO, the QUALITY of the play, compared to indoor games, HAS been adversely affected.
