That's always the thing I'm worried about - if I'm selling something on Kijiji, if I won't be home when the person proposes to meet, I never say that explicitly. I don't have an issue with them coming to my house for larger items while I'm there, but I'm not going to advertise the fact that my house is empty and unattended to a stranger on Kijiji.

I usually say "I'm a bit busy right now, but after 4:30 would work for me. I'll send you the exact address at 4:00, but the neighbourhood is...."

That's a good one. I'll go with that next time I meet at the house

Fair enough if that other people are totally comfortable with that though, all the power to them.

Though I know Calgary Police offers and even suggests that you can do transactions at their station parking lots. As they describe it:

"Online classified and auction sites have been used as a tool to sell stolen property to unknowing victims, and can present a safety threat"
Oh yeah, that isnt suuuuper sketchy!!

"Meet me in the parking lot at the Police Station...you may even have won a boat!"

I guess so, but really they could tell if someone was home or not by just knocking on doors and pretending to be telling you about an upcoming bottle drive or something. Pretty much every home has tvs and laptops and iPads and other expensive stuff that would be super easy to steal. I doubt that telling someone to meet me anytime after 5pm makes me a target because he now knows I won't be home during the day AND that I have a super sweet used kids bike worth $30.

Frankly based on the pure number of flakes on kijiji . I couldn't be bothered to load up my junk to drive it to the nearest parking lot to wait around for someone who may or may not even show up.

Anyways to each their own

I have a new Kijiji rule as of last week, no more parking lot transactions. If someone suggests it, the deal is off, don't care.

Ended up buying something relatively cheap so it's not a big deal, but it's tough to give an inspection of the shape it's in while in a dark parking lot. Plus it was cold so I hurried up when I should have paid more attention. Lesson learned.

Tough call - as a buyer I agree with you, but as a seller, I disagree. I prefer parking lots to sell (unless its a large item or something that needs plugging in to demonstrate).
In reality, it depends. I've had people who refuse to meet anywhere besides their house in the NE because "they don't take transit and don't have a car"; any feeling of a red flag as a buyer and I'm out of there, even if it is a house or parking lot. If the guy wants to meet up in a respectable/busy well lit parking lot, sure, no problem.

I have people meet me at macs or 711. well lit, lots of people, safe, and no need for strangers off the internet to come to my house to buy a god damn power cable

Anyone can come by your house and ring the doorbell and stands there.

Why is you opening the door and selling them a cable any different then the above.

My personal rule for Kijiji is if we have an agreed upon price and you try to haggle when we meet. That's how much the price just went up you jabroni.

That's why I just use Kijiji to buy stuff these days. eBay so much easier as a seller

I can't reply to these anymore. I get too annoyed too quickly with the bozos who ask for my "lowest price". I used to humour them, but I've realized that those buyers are never serious any way.

If the asking price is out of line, I will ask if the price is firm. I don't haggle if the price is ok. It's not part of the dance to ask the "lowest price."

Some sellers are idiots, too. Last fall, between kids' music lessons and football practices, I had a half hour or so to kill one evening. I came across a brake rotor on Kijiji that I wanted at a good price. Emailed the guy, asked when I could come and meet address. He replied with the name of a community hall I'm not at all familiar with. I asked again, and he again replied with the name of this community hall. I replied that I wasn't familiar with the hall and maybe we could try another time. His reply? He chewed me out for "wasting his time."

I got my truck for sale.

I get an email from a guy. He does not want the truck but asked if he could buy just the wheels and tires.

Who asks if they could have the wheels and tires???

You don't see the hilarious opportunity here? Take a him on a ride of emails that offers huge incentives on the wheels and tires if he takes on other small, inexpensive parts of the truck.

The deals get progressively better over a lifetime of emails that eventually include all the truck parts for the price you have it listed for now.

Can I have the transmission? Just let me know when you have it removed. Tomorrow at 3 is great for m to pick it up. I'll give you $200 for it.

Were they stock or aftermarket?

Lots of guys part out rims/tires. Come to think of it the last two vehicles I put the stock ones back on and sold the aftermarkets separate. Not a completely ridiculous request. Sort of strange if you never mentioned a second set in the ad though.
