I'd put money down on Engelland being first captain of the Vegas Golden Knights. He lives there in the off-season. They need a connection to establish roots with the local community (not all seats will be filled with tourists). Sure, it's a tenuous connection, but if Engelland can still play at the NHL level, it's an interesting hook to promote.

For sure but if this is the case, why even deal with the flames. Just go to UFA and deal directly with the knights. Unless he thinks like the flames do... Would prefer to stay with Calgary, but if Vegas claims me, that's a close 2nd.

Precisely. He gets signed by the Golden Knights as a free agent. Best chance for a bigger payday as the Knights will still need to hit the salary floor.

Brodie has been ok on the left lately and he and Wideman have to stay together as the only regular pair. Any other combo is all new pairs, plus messing with others normal sides
