Default CP Help! Where to fix a Dodge Neon...

Hey all,

A girl I know has a Dodge Neon and needs help figuring out the best place to take it in to be fixed in Calgary. Something wrong with the alignment/camshaft (don't ask me, I have no idea on the details). She took it to a guy yesterday who seemed really shady and she's looking for some good advice... and since I don't have a clue, I thought I'd turn to the knowledgeable geniuses at the Ol' Calupuck.

Any help would be very much appreciated, a few suggested places would be fantastic.

Whoever told her it was an alignment/camshaft problem, AVOID him/her! Those 2 aren't even related in the slightest way.

Best bet might be the dealership. I realize it costs more, but if there's a worry of shaddy mechanics ripping her off, then it might be the best choice.

Sure, but what dealership? She's got like 200,000km on the thing, so its not like she's got a regular maintenance place. I'm not sure she's ever had it 'properly' fixed at a dealership/repair shop. I think she's only owned it for a year or so.

Really I'm just looking to give her a reputable place or two that won't cost a ridiculous amount.

Every one is the same? Not one is better than the other? I get that a Dodge dealership is obvious, I'm looking for any particular place that is a good place to direct her to. She's a single mom and doesn't have a ton of cash, so I'm really interested in sending her to the best/most trustworthy place.

Sorry, not sure which dodge dealerships are good. Hopefully someone on here will recommend one. No 2 dealerships are equal.

East Side Dodge has done a good job on my cars in the past, right now I'm driving an SX 2.0 which is similar to a neon, but faster.

They're pretty trustworthy.

SX 2.0 is a Neon. :P.

What area of town are you in? Unless you get several good referalls, most small shops are a gamble (I realize a dealership will be too, but a much smaller chance of problems). A Dodge dealership is experienced in working on Dodges. Most dealership shops charge close to the same labour/hr, and the Dodge will do it in less time in most cases (on a Dodge). If you're in the far South (Midnapore, Shawnessy, etc) for small shops, I recommend Apollo/Speedy, and Mid-Sun Automotive. Avoid Canadian Tire Shawnessy AND Southland like the plague (in fact, unless you're told otherwise by SEVERAL people about a certain location...avoid them all). The shop is as good as the technicians working there (who are as good as the shop foreman/service manager lets them be).

Single mom eh? Is there anything else you're "interested" in? joking of course. can't really help you.

The best advise I have in this matter is: never buy a Neon, especially an old one. They are one of the most notoriously unreliable cars around.

Didn't they have a major problem with the head gasket?

The head gasket is pretty much guaranteed to go on neons. They didn't recall it despite this fact.

East Side Dodge hey... ok, right now they're the frontrunners.

If anyone else has some helpful input it would be hugely appreciated.

I got this woman her apartment when she was moving into town and it turns out Mayland Heights... wasn't the type of neighbourhood she was looking for. I found out the hard way Friday night that she sleeps with a knife under her pillow... I'll reach a little more gingerly underneath that thing next time.

So, yeah, I'm pretty eager to help her out on the car thing.

I don't know about that.

An ex-coworker of mine from High River has one that is pushing over 300K.

That being said,,,I would not buy one if you paid me.

Yeah... I think she's a little past the point where she's deciding which car to buy... she's already got it.

I also think that if the repairs are anything over $500 then its probably not worth fixing. I think its like a '92-'94 with over 200k km's on it, so I think if the repairs are too much she should just ditch it, but she seems pretty attached to it.
