Yeah I am pretty paranoid now but mostly just really scared. My current freak out is that even though my brother has 3 kids I can't remember if I actually held his kids or not. Will I even know how to hold a baby? HAHA seems stupid but its those little things haha! While I'm completely freaked out I'm pretty excited to see the little guy!
My only advice is to not take any advice too seriously!

Honestly, from day one they are their own little person, and no amount of advice or suggestions will be as good as just watching for what they like/don't like and what works or doesn't. We read so many things and heard so much from people, and our kid usually ended up being happiest with the opposite! So just do what feels right and makes them happy.

Also, the best advice I saw was on Grey's Anatomy -- no matter how scared or clueless you are, if you just show up, you're already doing better than half the dads out there. Everything else you'll learn pretty fast!

Not official yet because the schedule hasn't even been released to figure out what weekend works best, but the plan is to head down to New Orleans for a Saints game next fall. I've caught the Saints in Phoenix and Tampa Bay, but have never actually been to a game in the Superdome. Going to try to shoot for a night game if they get one, to maximize the atmosphere craziness. Can't wait!

My quick advice on children is to remember that they are both simultaneously completely individual and also mini replicas of mom and dad.

Always difficult to do, but remember that individuality when the urge to compare them to other children strikes you or someone else. They all develop at different speeds and levels and the most important thing is that they get there in the end.

Read to them.

Invest right now for them.

Congrats to all of the new parents and parents to be.

2017 - year of work!

Same boat, March 5 is the date. Looking forward to meeting my daughter, not so much the lack of sleep that comes with that though

Why? People and celebrities die all the time but I don't remember a year where so many icons passed away in the same calendar year.

If it's your first kid, the lack of sleep thing is a touch overrated by everybody, unless you have breasts and plan on breastfeeding. Like yeah you may wake up a couple times, but especially at first the kid just wants to feed / mom. The male is actually pretty useless throughout the entire process until a few months in. You can try to play with the baby and the baby might smile at you eventually but more in a 'hey, can you go get mom' kind of way.

If it's your second or more kid, you are screwed. Just straight up. You will probably lack a lot of sleep.

It is night and day between one kid to multiple kids (especially if they're close together in age). The difficulty level feels like it quadruples. One kid? Piece of cake. You don't have to completely sacrifice what's left of your life yet.

Yes. When it's YOUR kid (and not someone else's), you seem to learn things pretty quickly.

Then a year later when you hold a friend's or have another, you've "forgotten" and it's all awkward.

For me in 2017... just take it in stride.

Yeah. The burden of a newborn is all on the woman. There were times I tried to take the crying baby and coax him back to sleep but for the first few months neither of them really wanted anything to do with me most of the time. My wife had one evening where she would do her choir and I would be alone with the baby and one of them no matter what I did would just cry and cry for two hours until my wife got home. I did so many laps around the kitchen island trying to comfort him I almost wore out a path on the floor.

2016 was rough for me, so I'm just hoping that 2017 is a bit more gentle haha.

In 2017 I'm gonna try and hit up wrestling events in Texas and Japan, maybe take a trip to Spain, work on a start up company, get into ridiculous shape, learn a language (Spanish) and go to as many events as I can (galas, fundraisers, etc.). Maybe re-visit doing an MBA as well.

Might be pushed all the way to Spring 2018 so maybe N/A but anyway more likely for 2017 so I'll go with it: Moving back to Calgary buying a brand new home and living in a non-apartment/non-condo home for the first time since leaving the folks place 2 decades ago.

Sadly though, that does also mean leaving Japan which I've grown rather fond of over the past 6 years.

Really looking forward to Trump saying things and sharing information that he just shouldn't. Can't put a price on the entertainment he has and will continue to provide.

Finally landing a job and not having to put my stuff in storage and move back to Manitoba until I do. I was told by a bunch of recruiters in late October that they should be looking for 3D Modellers once the new year came around so hopefully I can land one. And if not I'll have to find a "regular" job to hold me over until I do.

2016 overall sucked pretty bad. It started off well with me only being unemployed for 6 weeks after getting laid off last December. Then once my contract ran out at the end of March things have been dry ever since. I also had pressure sores come back after 17 years and it took over half a year for them to heal and forced me to spend alot of time lying on my side.
