Icon24 Hawks sign Panarin to an extension (Update: Friedman: 2 years, 6 M per).

Panarin has 37 points in 37 games this year after winning the Calder last year. Interested to see the numbers. Great player.

https://theathletic.com/31597/2016/1...act-extension/

Will be announced Thursday morning.

Update:
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Hearing the Panarin extension with CHI as reported by @ByScottPowers is two years with a $6M AAV. Creative.

Should be pretty much in line with Gaudeau's contract. Will be interesting to see if he took a hometown discount just to make their cap situation work.

Such a solid player. Which teams were all after him before he signed with Chicago? He was a free agent right?

If I had to deal one of the core to make room, Seabrook would be the one. Crawford may be the other alternate.

It's great having parody in the league because of the cap era but at the same time, it's unfortunate some great teams need to be dismantled due to success. Chicago has managed to buck the trend and stay ultra competitive re-inventing themselves. Panarin will certainly get paid and deserves it.

Seabrook has a full NMC until 2022.

In fact, the only player making more than a million without at least some sort of NTC is Kruger.

I know you can't bank on it, but I think Hossa could retire after this year. He was having a great season before his latest injury but looking at his contract, he's scheduled to make $1 M in actual salary each of the next 4 seasons.

Wouldn't they get smoked by cap recapture?

Just trade Toews

Hossa retiring would be brutal for the Hawks.

They would be hit with a 4M+ cap recapture for 4 years, and still need to replace him with a top six forward.

I thought he signed that contract pre-recapture penalties?

Cant they just trade his contract to arizona and have them eat the cap hit?

Yep. 2013 CBA didn't matter. Weber's was signed before too.

As long as he plays. If he retires, it's the Hawks that get hit with the recapture.

So he would have to agree to the trade (NMC), and actually play for a team that won't be doing anything for the duration of his contract. Would be a huge favour by Hossa.

You can assume Kruger will be traded.

They have guys on ELC that will probably get bigger roles and will have about 9 million to sign about 4 forwards, 3 defencemen, and a goalie.

As usual, they'll just promote some guys from the farm and bring in a couple Campbell type deals and Tootoo type projects that will magically work out just fine.
