ya, the return we got for that trade sucks and Agostino is doing well in the A, but wouldn't have a chance at making the flames this season IMO. Tre did the right thing.
Good for him, but he isn't an NHL player.

According to Feaster, Hanowski and Agostino would both "be NHL caliber players at some point".

In my overly simplistic opinion, Agostino won't make it in the NHL because he's not elite at any particular skill. He doesn't have a single one of elite speed, tenacity, hockey IQ, size, shooting, or toughness. There will always be a younger guy in the system who has higher upside than Agostino, due to being elite in 1 category or another.
Maybe I'm not giving him enough credit?

He is what he is, a tweener jack of all trades, master of none. Who would he be able to replace on the Flames lineup currently? Stajan? Stajan has the veteran experience and can play on any line. Bouma, Ferland or Hathaway? Agostino is not a physical energy player. Chiasson? Chiasson is only 2 years older and has proven he can produce in the NHL, and he plays a needed position. And even if we were to lose or somehow trade Stajan, Jankowski has much more potential and plays a bigger game.
He has a similar problem to Granlund, and Granlund was a better player. Every team has 4-5 guys like Agostino that can fill a game or two in the NHL but will ultmately be career AHL players. No big loss

Matt Stajan isn't elite in any particular area, he's carved out a nice career for himself.

All GMs say that about guys who never make it, using this as proof of anything is pretty dumb
