Brouwer leaves Canucks game with upper body injury. UPD: cleared to play
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
Troy Brouwer upper body injury. Will not return.
Appears to be a hand injury suffered after the puck hit him while Versteeg was dumping the puck into the Canucks zone

Hopefully nothing major, salary might be a bit rich but he's been a good addition and the only right shot who could likely be called up from the Heat is Vey which is a major drop off if his hand is broken or anything major. You'd think anything big would have the flames making a depth move/waiver claim for another marginal AHL/NHL right shot forward.
I still think there's no way a guy who parachutes in as a UFA should be wearing an A over a career Flame who has been here almost a decade like Backlund so I think there would be some justice in Backs getting the A back if he's out but not much solace in that if the team is worse.

If he's out for awhile I would call up Janko and have Bennett play wing again.

Why would they claim someone off waivers or make a trade?
Versteeg back to RW, Ferland into the top 9 and Bouma with Stajan and Hathaway. Since we have 2 healthy forwards in the press box there isn't even a reason to call someone up unless there is another injury/illness.

Brouwer has been remarkably durable. I doubt it's serious (knock on wood).

Yeah I guess with Hamilton and Hathaway as right shots on the roster you're right, it's not as bad as the last couple years where it felt like they were constantly playing LWs on the right side and I could see them carrying on status quo roster wise. Just not a big fan of giving Chiasson more ice and poor Versteeg seems to be made of glass this year.
The problem for me is the type of right shots we have in the system. On the farm there are really no guys who are close that can jump into a top 9 role on the right side given a couple month injury. On the left side or at Centre there is lots of depth with skill. Hathaway is an awesome 4th liner and I like Hamilton in a 4th line role as well but I don't see much offensive upside with either.
Would like to see them acquire someone low cost who might end up as expansion bait to add to RW depth short term. Vey-Frattin-Poirier-Smith is not a right side on the farm that gives me a lot of faith in injury depth.

This year? Isn't his injury proneness the biggest reason why he had trouble getting a contract and therefore why we have him?

Week to week after finger surgery.
See how he heals compared to Johnny.

too bad, but not surprising ... once they say "the GM will address this", it'll always be a few weeks. Sucks for Brouwer, hopefully he comes back soon.
Hope they don't recall Shinkaruk now and put him into the press box again.
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Gaudreau - Bennett - Chiasson
Versteeg - Monahan - Ferland
Bouma - Stajan - Hathaway
still looks like a great mix to me ... maybe put Freddie in once in a while. If they want to call up a 14th forward, I hope it's someone like Vey, not one of the kids.

Sucks that he's injured but it's not like he was making much of a difference lately. He's produced on the pp but I'd be shocked if he has more than 2 5 on 5 points in the last 15 games. He has been invisible 5 on 5.
He's been a pretty big disappointment after starting the year real good.
Hopefully we make the playoffs and he truly shows his worth. He's a big game player.

Since when do PP points not count? If anything, the revival in special teams has been what has helped the Flames stay in the win column lately.

Is this the only thread we have about Brouwers injury?
I think that his absence is really felt on the penalty kill.
Its been two weeks already so the Flames should expect him back by the end of the month. I reckon that F. Hamilton will be placed on waivers when Troy is back, if there isn't another injury before that of course.

Killed 22 of 25 in the games since he was hurt for a pretty respectable 88% rate.....which would have them 1st in the NHL.
I think they miss him though. Particularly along the boards. He is a decent size body that plays in the hard areas and that has been a bit of a weakness of late.

They miss him most when Ferland has to play on that second line.
