Drasaitl isn't a scrub though. He's on pace for 30+ goals and 70+ points.

Does also look like that other U-24 players are taken into consideration as depth even if it's called Core 4. Players like RNH, Larsson and Nurse make a difference even if they're not stars.

prob the right top 4, the order, who cares.
Edmonton has McDavid and the final solution; they deserve to be in the top 4.

Where did I say that he was? I proposed a more extreme example than the four players given.
edit: My original comment was asking the question: Just how high does McDavid push the rankings of 4 players as a group?

I think balance and depth should be a factor here. In this case Edmonton is clearly not number one. They are probably top 4.
Really a shame to leave Bennett off of our list - if we go top 5 are we number 1 then? They wanted core to rhyme with 4? whatever.

Uggh. As much as I hate the Oilers, if you're looking at just the top 4 four players under 24, they are clearly a level above the rest.
McDavid is amazing. Draisaitl is fantastic. Puljujarvi has amazing potential, remember the outrage when Columbus passed on him? And even Klefbom is no scrub, easily potential to be a number 2 defenseman.
The fortunate problem with the Oilers is that they drop off quite quickly beyond these guys. But only the most homer of fans can't see they deserve to be number 1 on this arbitrary list.

Maybe we are saying the same thing - I think that depth is important and really agree with bolded above. If you restrict the list to top 4 then yes sure they can be number 1.
Also agree that this is just an arbitrary list with cut off being 4 cause it rhymes with core.
Would you agree that the Oilers probably should not be number 1 if we considered more than 4 and thought about balance - good dmen, forwards and goalies?

Would anyone trade Gaudreau, Monahan, Hamilton and Tkachuk for McDavid?

I wouldn't but I am a flames homer. Maybe an impartial fan could chime in on this one.

It's a ranking of literally the top 4 players under 24. They are only talking about the four players listed. Except with Calgary and Tampa, Bennett for some reason was the tiebreaker.
If it was the top 5, or 6 or 7, things change quickly. But it isn't it's top 4.

Nope.
Would anyone not trade Gaudreau, Monahan, Hamilton and Tkachuk for McDavid, Draisaitl, Puljuravi and Klefbom?
Flames fans may take the Flame players
Leaf fans may take the Leaf players
Jet fans may take the Jet players
Everyone else takes the Oilers.

Sorry but no. I personally I'm not convinced the gap between McDavid and Gaudreau is all that large. And I'll take the support group the Flames have any day.

Wow. If you put those four players up for grabs with anyone in the league that aren't Flames fans they're taking Oilers package.

Ok, cool.
I think ours have more success ahead of them.
Teams have had good success without the need for "generational" talent. Oilers continue to be full of potential until they actually do something.

Fit their core under the cap with McDavid is making 12M and Drai is making 6M
next year will be as good as the Oilers get IMO

Drai is heading towards a huge contract. I would think that 6 million is the short side, especially if they want to buy free agency years.
I would expect that McBongo and Draisatan are going to garner 20 million bucks or nearly a quarter of their payroll.

I wouldn't make that trade, the Flames top 4 is much better rounded then the Oilers. a generational player like Mcgonney goo goo is only going to take you so far and a 12 million dollar player means that the rest of your line up is going to suck butt.

d-man like Hamilton have MASSIVE value...more than most forwards. Oilers just traded Hall for Larsson
don't let the Kadri talk fool you...its not as much of a slam dunk as some think to basically give up anything for McDavid.
before someone chimes in I'm certainly not suggesting Hamilton=McDavid

While I think the Flames package is deeper the sad reality is that McDavid is too good to pass up.

Sabres are being mad underrated on that list. Their NHL team has some dead weight like Gorges and and their entire left wing, but strictly top 4 under 24, Eichel/Ristolainen/Reinhart/Nylander enviable. Filling their left wing / left D will be a cake walk in comparision.
