He was only in the AHL. I think Sweden has some sort of agreement with the NHL that players playing in the AHL must be released to the Junior team if desired.

I still think that Nylander will be a good player, and I preferred him over Tkachuk in June but I've changed my mind since.

Today at WJC camps:

Kylington expected to join Sweden's camp today after playing in the AHL yesterday. Kylington not expected to play in any of the pre-tournament games except for the final game on Friday against Russia. A good sign that he has made the team in the coach's eyes which is no big surprise.

USA has their first pre-tourney game against Switzerland. Cuts expected (but not guaranteed) after the game.

Canada faces the Czech republic in their 2nd pre-tourney game. Forward lines have been juggled even though they dominated the Finns. Will be on TSN1 at 5pm MT.

edit: doesn't look like Russia is playing a game tonight.

Parsons starting for the US today. Fox will be playing tonight as well.

The US scratched McAvoy and Jones on defense, so they likely made the team.

Not really. Remember Tim Hunter, who was not a defenseman, but one of the toughest of the time was 6'2" 202.

Phil Russell 6'2" 200
Brad Marsh 6'2" 220
Bob Murdoch 6'195
Kari Elorantra 6'2" 192
Steve Konroyd 6'1" 195
Richie Dunn 6' 195
Jamie McCoun 6'2 197

Reinhart doesn't stand out among those.

Looks like Parsons played the full game. USA won 4-3. Faced about 20 shots.

Fox no points.

USA cuts DeBrincat and Brown.

DeBrincat a big surprise as he made the team last year and has terrific offensive numbers in the OHL.

USA with 13f/8d/3g. One more cut to be made and it is expected to be a D-man.

I had read an article or two that mentioned DeBrincat as pretty much a shoe-in. Interesting.

WJC camps today:

Sweden faces Russia.

Sweden's lines:
Pettersson - Andersson - Grundström
Dahlén - Asplund - Dahlström
Ahl - Eriksson Ek - Nylander
Söderlund - Karlström - Davidsson
Lööke

Kylington - Moverare
Larsson - Gunnarsson
L. Carlsson - Bernhardt
Dahlin

Sandström
Werner

No surprise Kylington is on the 1st PP unit for Sweden.

Looks like Karnaukhov will be playing 3rd line LW for the Russians.

The Americans and Canadians have no games scheduled for today.

WJC camps today:

Canada vs Switzerland 5pm MT TSN
USA vs Czechia

These are the last pre tourney games before the tournament starts on Boxing Day. Should see all teams finalize rosters soon.

While teams must submit rosters on Dec 25, it is still legal for them to leave spots open on the 23 man roster and name players later after the 25th to fill spots.

Russia vs Sweden highlights Kylington #7 in yellow. Karnaukhov #19 in red.

Not much in terms of highlights for Flames prospects
1:18 Kylington fights off Russians as he drives towards the net
2:45 Karnaukhov forces a turnover on the forecheck which leads to a scoring chance

Has any more come out on why Debrincat was cut? He was supposed to be a lock. Eerily similar to how Kessel was left off the world Cup.

Was it Kylington who was snubbed before by Sweden? I can't remember if I'm confusing him with someone else.

Both Kylington and Andersson were left off last year and many people questioned it, especially after Kylington made the team as a 17 year old (though he was injured in the pre-tournament and never played a game).

Also, Russia made their final cuts and Karnaukhov has made the team. His VHL (Russian AHL) statline this year is one of the best ever for a u20 player, I think he'll be quietly effective for them at this u20.

Massive gulf in class between Canada and the Swiss.

Dube has been noticeable every shift so far including his goal and a wrister off the post.

He won't wow you with his hands but he's tenacious as hell and heavy on pucks. Reminds me of Frolik in terms of style comparison.

3-2 Canada after 2 periods.

Draft eligible Nico Hischier with both goals. He had a few other chances as well. The kid looks like the sort of player we'll spend the rest of the season praying doesn't fall into Vancouvers lap.
