We really do have one of the prettiest airports to land at with the mountains in the background and then the city skyline. Vary Nice, yah?

Is this the flight that had to abort due to high winds?

My cousin texted me yesterday that they had to abort a landing and the turbulence was so bad she got sick.

Nope, that was another Toronto flight I believe, operated by an Airbus 321. Go around due to wind shear.

Here's a pic from the ground of the go around:

Heading to Seattle in June to watch the Jays. Really want to check out the Boeing factory and do the tour.

Anyone else done it? Tips? I think it's a fair ways from downtown Seattle (where I'm staying), so I'm curious how you guys go there. I won't have a car.

I took the tour in 2005 (eons ago). There was no efficient way to get there other than by renting a car for us. Definitely worth it for anyone interested - my mom and dad went with us and even they were interested.

It might be worth renting a car for the day to go out there. I'd do it again!

It's a good tour but the Boeing plant is in Everett which is about 30 minutes north of DT Seattle. We has a car when we did it so transportation was not an issue so I cannot comment on how it would be to get there without one but the tour itself was great. Humble brag but even better was the tour we got of the 737 plant in Renton however that one is not available to the general public.

Like said above, the plant is in Everett, so it's a good 30 minutes from Seattle itself. Getting a cab or Uber would likely cost you just as much (if not more? Not well versed in Uber costs) as renting a car for the day.

We went in 2012...not sure if this has changed by now, but back then, you were not allowed to take cellphones or cameras on the actual tour of the plant. It makes sense cause of military contracts, company secrets, etc. But they do take it seriously, and security (which seem more like the Boeing Police) will do inspections. They have lockers on-site to store your stuff, though. And you can take as many pictures as you want at the visitor's center, just not in the actual factory.

There's an area on the top floor of the visitor's center (it was either the roof, or a balcony accessible from the top floor) where you can take pictures of the planes and the runway, and watch them flight testing aircraft, so I recommend that. The gift shop has some cool stuff, keychains, aircraft models, etc.

Also recommend getting a Seattle CityPASS (saves you money on various attractions around Seattle), and check out the Museum of Flight as well! When I was there, they had the Boeing 707 that served as Air Force One, and you could walk through it. The interior is all covered in plexiglass so you can't touch anything, but it's cool to see and take pictures. I read somewhere that they have a 787 Dreamliner there now that you can walk through as well. If I recall correctly, it was one of the early frames that had some issues and no customers wanted, so they donated it to the museum.

Yeah. It was a pretty cool tour. No cameras and if I recall you actually there was a height restriction, so basically no really young kids.

We drove, but you can probably find a way to get there.

Shot in the dark here, but I was wondering if anyone in this thread either works for or knows someone who works for the Winnipeg Airport Authority. They have a job posting I am very interested in.

This baby: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dcspotter/21573217172 is over by the Westjet hangar on the NW side. I had no idea that the "Eastern Airlines" name had been revived, but there it is....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines_(2015)

Now I see that it must be the Panthers' plane. Cool stuff.

Yup, I love that classic Eastern Livery.

And yes, the Panthers' use them to get around, last year and maybe the year prior one of the 737's had their logo on the tail. Totally ruined the livery.

Video of their arrival the other day:

Something I never really gave much thought to before:

How does customs work for teams flying on charters such as this?

I see the customs agent at the foot of the stairs, but is that it? Does it work the same in the US? Or would they do pre-clearance?

Is there a reason they don't use a jetbridge/gate or is it simply a cost issue (cheaper to park on the apron off to the side)?

Do they have to clear security when boarding the plane? How does that work?

They probably don't fly into the main terminals, similar to O&G charters up north.

Sometimes the Flames (who use Air Canada Jetz) have departed from the terminal, I am guessing that is in situations where they are departing to the US and then they are pre-cleared by the US customs like every other traveler.

Not sure how Canada customs works for this, they used to have a little station down at the Shell in the SW corner of the field and you'd go over there to clear if arriving in a private plane/charter like this. Perhaps with prior planning they'll come and meet you if parking somewhere else like they did in this case.

Teams like the private terminals (Esso, Shell, and Millionair) since it provides a measure of privacy and ease that you don't get at the terminal. No security before boarding the plane either (from what I remember many years ago).

Customs agents will come over to the aerocentre for private and charter, you just need to call ahead.

When I was in the military and we would be flying back we would occasionally get courtesy customs, over the radio, ie the agent couldn't or didn't want to meet us on landing in Canada.

Yah a friend of mine sometimes is told he doesn't need to be checked when they fly their plane back from the USA.
