Well, yeah. Everyone (including me ) has San Fran as a great city. But you still wouldn't want to live in the Temderloin.

Putting aside the subjectivity of the rest of the list, are we just going to ignore that last one???

You won't find The Tenderness in the Tenderloin.

Maye it's just a problem with the HD cable feed, but in keeping with the theme of this thread, it seems like the Edmonton anthem singer doesn't quite hit a few of his notes. Anyone else notice this?

Ya. Doubt it has anything to do with the feed.

Galveston?? For reals?
Did Bowness just miss the list?
Was it the smell of the seaweed, the murky water, the teens cruising up and down the seawall, the cars driving on the beach, or the view of the drilling platforms that turned you on to it?
In seriousness, Galveston has its charm and it is on the water, but I have never heard it described as one of the great cities. At least not since the hurricane of 1915.
Are you talking about Kingston Jamaica?

I like it. It's old town and boardwalk has charm and they've started to rebuild it nicely since Katrina. Not a "great" city. An attractive one. Also about as affordable a coast city as you can get.

Katrina didn't touch Galveston. Maybe you mean Ike.
I agree it's affordable but it's the gulf coast.

Just dropping in, but this is bizarre.
Fine if you don't like Vancouver, and each to his own, but from any objective standpoint Vancouver is a world city. It's OK not to want to live there for whatever reason, but to try and argue that it is not one of the better cities in the country (if not the world, by city standards) is very provincial and somewhat comical.

I agree. There are a number of things I don't like about Vancouver, but without question it is a world-class city. I much prefer it over Toronto, and that is a world class city as well.
However, there are always going to be people who like different things. I would put Vancouver up against a list of the top cities in the world, and think it would rank very favorably. There are other cities I would prefer to live in (and I do prefer living in Calgary - minus the bouts of -20), but Vancouver by most metrics is one of the better cities around.

Vancouver doesn't have the industry or commerce to be a world class city. For visitors from smaller cities, it seems like a city with lots of "energy" as another poster put it, but you'd never hear that from someone from a true world class city, like a New York, Toronto, Tokyo or LA.
Vancouver is however, gorgeous from June to September and definitely is fantastic to visit in the summer where you can stay in the city or take a short trip to the islands or interior.
Being pretty though, does not make a city world class.

Someone should start a thread about the best cities in the world and send all this conversation there.
This thread is about E=NG
Anyone see Sam Gagner is on pace for a career year - 38 goals and 64 points. That blows his career highs of 18 goals and 49 points out of the water.
He just needed 2 years to get the Edmonton stink off of him and he is a good player.

Well, yeah, and the threat of not being treated like a Golden Boy and potentially being bounced out of the league.
Its funny though, hes on pace to outscore The Tenderness, for $650K.

That's part of the reason why I still would not be opposed to picking up Yakupov as I'm sure STL will tire of him just as Arizona and Philadelphia did with Gagner.
