Meanwhile, Kulak is not in the lineup. Expect to see him recalled tomorrow.
I'm surprised to see Kylington's name on the lineup. I thought he'd have joined Sweden at their selection camp by now.

Garbutt throws an accidental flying knee to Andersson's chest/face, and Stockton goes the other way and Klimchuk scores to make it 1-0. Bollig then runs over Garbutt in retaliation, so the Gulls go to the PP.

2-0 after one, Carroll scored the second one. The Heat will be starting the second on the PP as well.

Gillies hates fun and has successfully prevented the Gulls' Teddy Bear Toss from occurring naturally.
He's playing quite well tonight.

The Gulls score with 20 seconds left to ruin the shutout but that's all they'd get. 3-1 win for the Heat.

The Heat have the best goaltending in the league in terms of GAA (2.41). Stuff like that just makes a huge difference.
So many prospects and young players there to get excited about. I hope Klimchuk and Mangiapane both get a short cup of coffee at some point this season, would be interesting to see how far they are off at this point.
Always good to see Culkins name in the lineup. Just stay healthy for once dude ...

Didn't see this posted and I don't think Sportsnet covers the Heat often. Here's an article written a couple days ago about the Heat's success.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/s...ointing-years/
Quote:
They are fourth in the AHL with 3.50 goals per game despite not having a player among the top 20 AHL scorers. However, they have a blend of veterans and prospects at forward that brings balanced scoring.
|
I think this has been key to point out. We're scoring a lot of goals, but it's not because we have career AHLers who are lighting the lamp and carrying the team. Lines are being rolled and many of our prospects are developing very nicely. The best part about this is that there are 5 forwards/3 defensemen ready for a call-up whenever necessary, but losing a couple of them to the NHL won't cripple the Heat due to how deep it is.
Looking at that roster before the season started, you knew they were going to be scoring some nice goals and from all over.

I wonder if the Flames should add some pieces at the deadline to help Stockton go deep. What do they need?

They don't really need anything.
Stockton is a really balanced team in all positions.
The only thing the might need is good depth to cover recalls to the NHL, but all teams all AHL teams need that.
Maybe a better question to ask closer to the trade deadline in case they lose someone to long term injury.

And NHL teams almost never make moves with the AHL club in mind.

They don't need to make NHL moves. Heat acquired Yann Sauve, who was playing in the ECHL, last season at the AHL trade deadline (which is a week after the NHL trade deadline).
Also last season Charlotte and Bakersfield made a trade where they swapped players on AHL rosters, but Carolina and Edmonton retained the NHL rights to the players. Oilers assigned Andrew Miller to Charlotte and Canes assigned Zach Boychuk to Bakersfield in exchange. In the end not much change to the NHL teams as the Oilers could still recall Miller and the Canes could still recall Boychuk but the moves were made to better the AHL clubs.
The Canes and Canucks also did the same thing last season with Blair Jones and TJ Hensick.

Nice bit of scheduling today with the Heat and Barracuda playing this afternoon in San Jose and the Flames and Sharks playing tonight.

Heat off to a pretty bad start this afternoon in San Jose. Already 2-0 for the bad guys, near the end of the first.

Game has started.
Heat down 2-0 in the first. Last goal was scored on the 5-on-3. Heat still killing the second penalty.

The Heat seem like they're on their Christmas break already, shots are 17-1 against.

Bollig pokes one in on the PP to bring the game within one. Hopefully they can battle back and take this one like the Flames did last night.
