Nobody said the NHL sued CP. Simply that CP has been sued. While I have no idea who did it, or for what, I do know that certain local journalists have very narrow viewpoints. Either way, it is not something that the OWNER of the site wants to put up with, and Bingo's opinion trumps that any and every amateur lawyer.
On the topic, however, I remember ICraveTV from back in the day. Being able to watch the Simpsons at 3:00 when in my monotonous programming class at SAIT was a life saver.
It will be interesting to see if the media providers are smart enough to realize that there is demand for things like this, though I doubt it will happen soon. Its easier to just sue everyone who offers such a service into oblivion. Eventually someone will pick up on the fact that iTunes has been highly successful and adapt it to webTV.

I think legal issues associated with this board should be left up to it's administrators.
Discussion about these issues is important, but I think when discussing actual legal liabilities, previous and imagined, we might all be wiser to shut up and continue enjoying this board.

Too true, too true. I will run my mouth off about prostitutes and what not, but I won't touch this subject with a ten foot pole.

I just am wondering what previous litigation this site has incurred so I can avoid exposing it to more... Have any of you been on any other message boards? I used to go to stucknut.com a lot and if these message boards frequently get sued for what is posted, some of the things said on their site should land the owner in jail.

None of your business.
If you can't abide by the requests of this forum's administration, I suggest you find another forum.

No kidding. How about you just do as you're told and let us worry about it (not you Reg, the other guy).
As for other message boards, who cares? The dude that runs the FlamesPPV posts on this site. I don't think its a huge leap in logic to think he might mention to his superiors that people on CP are posting ways around the PPV. And considering we are a target audience for their PPV's they might take a heightened interest in the fact.
None of us have the time or wherewithal to deal with that, so, case closed.

It's been spelled out what the forum's policy is for quite awhile now.
In case you missed it the first time around..
3. Thou shalt keep thy posts legal.
Copyrighted material may not be traded or sold on the forum. Copyrighted material may not be reproduced in part or in full on the forum, post links to photos or articles that you do not own the copyrights to. You may include a two or three paragraph excerpt to give the general idea you want to discuss (unless the article is only that long, then just post a link).
Posts with links to illegal download/pirating sites and such may be edited and/or deleted. A ban me result. Links to short videos are acceptable as long as the video/site isnt for profit and it isnt a significant amount of unaltered game footage (e.g. an entire period or game). Calgarypuck HAS been sued in the past over this issue, so moderators will be pretty strict about this.
Belabouring the issue isn't going to change things.

As clear as that is...TVU is still a grey area.
And as far is the guy who runs PPV - first of all buddy has like 8 posts, and only advertises when we're lucky enough to pay 10 bucks for a game that should be free. TVU does not use the PPV feed in their link...flames PPV as a business (independent or otherwise from the flames) doesn't have a case agianst TVU in that regard.
And what's with so many board vets smacking on newcomers....this may bite me in the ass if it was ever chosen to be done...but how do you expect new users to join and become regular posters if all people do is put them down? Make the board private if you don't want outer ring people making posts (which, if it came from a more 'numbered' poster would be viewed as legit). some of the attitudes on this board make no sense. Memo: post count means nothing.

The Flames PPV might not be the ones being rebroadcast, but you can bet he would either know or know how to get a hold of the people who are being rebroadcast pretty quick. And him having only 8 posts doesn't matter much, as you point out. Lots of people have the forums as read only.
People are piling on you because you don't seem to be acknowledging anything they are saying.

The only business it is is you either accept the way it is, contact the owner if you wish to discuss it, or don't particiapte.
It's actually worse than a communist regime.. it's a totalitarian dictatorship. It is after all a private site.

Sometimes this is true, but in this case it has nothing to do with post counts and everything to do with what is appropriate on this board according to those who run this board.
It's not up to any user with 1 or 1 million posts to tell the board how it should handle legal issues and copyrights.
And just an afterthought to those saying "why would anyone sue CP?"
The first rule of suing is that you sue absolutely everyone who could possibly be involved.
There's no limit to how many parties you can sue so you just include everyone which in certain cases could include message boards even thought they're not likely at fault.

A private site with minimal entry requirements, not public. You do have to register.
Should I wait for the freedom of speech stuff to start?

so when familes of plane crash victims sue airlines, they sue the airline industry? There are cases where this is not true.
not saying i know everything about this matter, but it didn't take long to find an example that disagreed with your statement.

Just to further this, I have *Online TV Software (I removed the name of the sofware for the board) is God* as my MSN quote... Just curious, does this make Microsoft responsible?
Not disputing the reasoning behind CP, but just curious in general.
