Thought this deserved it's own thread.

I'm so moved by this. It's literally a roller coaster of emotion. Apprehension to start as I know what the end is, warmness and happiness for the kindness and thoughtfulness of Santa, and then utter sadness at the end. The video interview of Santa is so raw, I felt every wave of emotion he did, along with the thought of devastation of the family.

I have to stop reading stories like these, it's the same reason I avoid the Euthanasia thread. I'm an utter basketcase this morning now, and can't stop. Regardless, this is a must read/watch...

This one ruined my day yesterday. So incredible but so ####ing sad.

They had a boy with brain tumours before the Pats game yesterday, his last wish was to meet Tom Brady. The kid is so upbeat and brave. He's going downhill very quickly, the damn tumours are spreading. #### cancer in all its forms.

Same for me. I read this story and it really did kind of ruin my day. I couldn't get it off my mind for some reason.

It did help me a little later in the day though when I got stressed about something stupid and that popped back in my mind and I consciously though to myself to STFU.

Awful story.

Thanks for sharing. Myself, so much to be thankful for; what a Christmas for the family, incredibly sad.

OMG, the most complete display of compassion from Santa. Such a huge gift of self to fulfill the boy's dying wish to not only the child but the family knowing the final joy it gave to their son.

I bet he even paid for his own gas too.

What a sad story. No kid should go through this. Bravo for Santa for making his last few minutes special. When he asks santa to help him is where I couldn't hold back the tears...

This is real sad and hits closer to home because my friends 3 year old son has terminal brain cancer and was just told he has less than one year to live. I couldn't imagine going through anything even remotely similar.

Really puts things in perspective and the things we argue about really means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Glad this boy got his final wish.

So very, very sad. Very grateful that Santa was able to ease this little guy's last moments though. RIP Santa's #1 elf.

I had a friend who's 3 year old was diagnosed with dipg ,following the journey of that brave little girl was heartbreaking. I couldn't imagine the horrors that family had to face daily something like that would absolutely break me.

Sorry to have to post this, and hope it's not the case:

Tennessee paper: Volunteer Santa may have concocted story about hospitalized 5-yr-old boy dying in his arms. Story went viral around world.

Did a little research, and so far, the issue is that the story can't be independently verified, which isn't a good sign, but doesn't automatically mean the story is a hoax.

Here's the official statement from the newspaper.

Quote:
Since publication, the News Sentinel has done additional investigation in an attempt to independently verify Schmitt-Matzen’s account. This has proven unsuccessful. Although facts about his background have checked out, his story of bringing a gift to a dying child remains unverified. The News Sentinel cannot establish that Schmitt-Matzen’s account is inaccurate, but more importantly, ongoing reporting cannot establish that it is accurate.

Therefore, because the story does not meet the newspaper’s standards of verification, we are no longer standing by the veracity of Schmitt-Matzen’s account.
