The irresistible narrative: This has to happen.

Their recent hot streak has pushed them into the mix for not just a playoff spot, but maybe even a division title in a weak Pacific. They've got a ton of young talent, but plenty of room for a little veteran help in the middle-six. It could work.

Imagine Iginla's first game back in Calgary. Better yet, imagine if they could make a deep run with him in the lineup. The beloved hero returning to avenge a wrong is a classic trope, and we'd be seeing it play out in real life.

It would be good. Too good. But we're still far enough away from the deadline that we can dream.
It would be an even greater storybook ending than Lanny.

Hopefully history repeats itself here.

Chiarelli thinks that he has a deadline deal for Iginla, just like he thought he had in 2013. Then Iginla changes his mind and goes to Montreal.

We all laugh at the oilers (again).

Don't want him back, but won't deny that if he did come back, it would feel incredible.

My 2 cents - he ends up with the Rangers.

At 12:12 I voted yup. It is -12 in Edmonton.

Yup has a 12 vote lead... that's gotta mean something right?

There's a real difference between Iginla's trade from the Flames and his signing with Colorado. In the deadline deal, he's making the same money anyway and planning on going to FA. So he picks a team that's very likely to go to the cup that year. Pittsburgh was as good a choice as any, plus he gets to play with Sid or Malkin. When he was a FA, Colorado probably gave him simply the best offer.

So fast forward to today, he's a deadline deal with a NMC. So I think his thinking is the same as before - what teams are likely to go deep. Edmonton's out. Calgary is iffy. I'm looking East if I'm him. Or maybe Anaheim.

If Iggy ever ended up on the Oilers I would boo him into retirement. That would feel like betrayal to me. I hope its Calgary or east. for the record I don't want him back. I think hes too slow now, but I could be wrong maybe hes the triggerman Johnny needs on his line now that Monahan and him aren't a thing.

Iggy's not going to end up on the Oilers. If he accepts a trade, it will be to a contender, as this is likely his last shot. That's why I don't think he'd accept a trade to Calgary either. Now is not our time, and it's certainly not the Oilers time.

IMO it will be one of the big 4 at the trade deadline. Likely Chicago, Washington, Rangers or Pittsburgh. Maybe even the Sharks if they are in contention. But I'd put my money on the Caps or Hawks.

Voted yup. Arguments against it are sound, logical and rational. But I don't care.

LA seems like it makes a lot of sense what with the Sutter connection and the Kings making good use of old vets on several runs (Reggie, Lecavalier etc)

I don't think it bothered many Flames fans. Nilsson never really endeared himself to Flames fans like say Iginla or Fleury did.

And many Flames fans, myself included, were never happy with his disappearing act during thee playoffs...the opposite of which was the case with Iggy and Fleury.

Makes sense, that is where all star players go to end their productive careers...regardless of their age.

Does Iginla get a contract offer next year?

Does he want one?

I would suspect that if he lands a spot on a contender at the deadline and produces reasonably well, he comes back for 1 final season (regardless of cup win). If he is somehow shipped to Calgary this deadline, he retires at seasons end. His current pace probably doesn't have him slotting in above Sakic at #15 for all time goals (625), but you would think he wants that spot at the very least...just saying..

I'm guessing he retires after this season regardless of what happens.

Also wouldn't be surprised if a team like VGK wants him in the offseason?
