Should demolish Eau Claire mall and put in a hockey stadium there. Green line will hit it and people can stay downtown after work.
Yes? No? Wish it was so.

I guess if people want to believe a bait and switch was some sort of intentional tactic all along, sure, go for it.

Not gonna happen. It's privately owned, with plans for very high density.

Hopefully there will be some new revelations in their story.
Edit: It sounds like they are reporting that the Mayor has said this morning that in this economy CalgaryNext is dead. Ken King commented that they are not fully ready to put a nail in the coffin but he doesn't disagree with the Mayor.

The west end location is so much better from a transportation standpoint, and it's not even close.

That location puts it in easy walking distance for City Hall station covering the Red and Blue lines even better than Victoria Park does now, and being on the Green Line would ease that congestion even more. Sunalta means majority of the people need to go the same direction on the train so they can get back to the Red Line. Significantly more of a #### show than it is currently.
Significantly better dispersal of LRT traffic is more important than vehicle traffic, especially since it wouldn't really be worse than it is now in that regard. Vic Park location moves people better, not just cars better.

Normally I wouldn't be a conspiracy nut but the sheer incompetence in the first presentation either means they are incompetent at putting together a proposal or didn't want it to succeed.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
Transferring would be slightly more inconvenienced at the west location, but not by much. The four-car train is there, as is a comprehensive busing system to stations downtown (as proposed by the Flames).
The river path running east-west is right by the west location, much easier to access than the current location.
Crowchild Trail / Bow Trail / 14th Street / 5th Avenue / 9th Avenue and the less amount of lights (now and in the future) easily beats the current MacLeod Trail configuration by the Saddledome. Road traffic, which is still a significant component of transportation, is significantly better in the West Village.
Walking distance to downtown is exactly the same.
West Village, at the end of the day, moves people better.

And the area being used for a hockey rink would be a travesty.

I like the Calgary Next to be located at its original spot. West of DT area. Lots of access roads. I also think the Calgary skyline would look better with the original model.

I don't think the WV is ready, and I think the EV (or nearby) will benefit from this.
Much better to me then splitting the investment between the two locations.

I take it this means a new stadium/field house is dead in the water?

I'm aware of that. I'm just thinking out loud about a central location that isn't the Stampede grounds.

Any area would benefit from this, that's not an EV exclusive.
Wherever it goes, I doubt the Flames want to give up the sweet sweet parking lot cut. Neither does the Stampede.

Early analysis showed that CalgaryNext was never attainable in W. Village. It's time for the City to stop spending on further analysis.

That is my single biggest issue with CalgaryNext. The Flames are willing to give up 60% of the available parking just so they can cash in on the remaining 40%. And as anybody who currently parks on the grounds knows- it isn't like there is a huge surplus right now.
So basically they are asking for my taxes to go up, price for tickets to go up significantly, and take away the ability for me to park at the game. All so the owners can make more money on premium seats.

I am aware of who owns it and what is going up there.
God forbid someone suggest an alternative site as a fan idea. I must have committed heresy.
