Nope - same story. Both have 0% chance of making the flames.

If Iggy agrees to join the Oilers then he shouldn't be welcome back here. Most will disagree but that takes away any number retirement too.

I voted no. Not because he's not good, but because we're not winning the cup this year, with or without iggy. I do however think he would look great flanking gaudreau and bennett.
For the people saying he's slow, I wouldn't be too worried about that. There are plenty of examples of slower players with high IQ who are good (Lucic, Perry, Bertuzzi, Sedin's)
I would be way more worried about his shot (probably his greatest asset). I don't remember which gm/coach/executive/scout said this, but pretty much they said that, as a sniper type player ages, they lose their release. I haven't had a chance to look at how he's been scoring his goals in the last few years, but I would assume that his "sniping" ability has deteriorated.
Just food for thought

I am more on the 'no' side, but your argument is the same as:
"If you could pick between winning the cup with Jarome, and being eliminated in the 2nd round because this team didn't have enough leadership and someone to rally around, what would you choose?"
It is a nonsensical argument.

easy...it wasn't an argument, it was a hypothetical question. I'm not saying anything is a guarantee, I'm just wondering if some around here care more about seeing Iggy play for the Flames again over the team without him winning the cup. Purely hypothetical question. Personally, I care more about the team and want to see them win. I don't care who they'd have to pick up or who they'd have to trade away, first and foremost I want to see the team win the cup. I'm just thinking that there are some who care more about other things.

I remember that differently, though admittedly maybe incorrectly. I thought Ryan Smyth was willing and wanting to come to Calgary but something changed on our end? We signed or traded for someone that changed our plans of bringing him here.

Assuming Colorado acknowledges he has no real value at the deadline, bring him back and let him retire a Flame as he should have. I wouldn't want to give up any good prospects or picks for a nostalgic rental.

It's gonna be Brett Favre 2.0
And just as Brett came home to Green Bay, if Iggy goes to Edmonton, he will be hated for a time. But, ultimately once he retires we will see it was an old mans last ditch attempt to stay in the game, and forgive him for it.

Respectfully, I find this list a little odd. One current good player (who I don't think is very slow - just not fast and definitely not smooth), the twins, who are looking pretty mediocre, largely (IMO) because they are slower, Lucic, who is not putting up points with McDavid mainly (also IMO) because he's too slow, and a guy who's not playing in the faster style NHL.

Nobody in their right mind would ever pick seeing Iginla in a Flames uniform one more time over winning the cup.
Knowing him personally, I can honestly say without a doubt I would rather see the Flames hoist the cup than him in a Flames uniform one more time.
I also wouldn't be against the Flames picking him up at the deadline and I've watched the Avs a few times this season. The stench coming from that team is massive and it isn't surprising that nobody is really performing on that team.
People talking about how his presence and attitude in the dressing room wouldn't be beneficial because of what happened in the past don't know him. Things were blown out of proportion because the team just wasn't any good, so blame has to go somewhere.
He understands his role, he's embraced it in Colorado. He isn't out there in 4 on 4 or 3 on 3 situations, or in the last minute defending a 1 goal lead and even some times when down by 1. Tough start to this year but he has had 2 pretty solid seasons in Colorado before this year. If you bring him in, shelter his minutes and put him on the PP.
If anything you see what a solid team guy he is and how much he is willing to battle for his teammates over the weekend when Colborne got levelled.
Just my 2 cents.

A key point missed by some... that team sucks.
All players on that team with the exception of Mackinnon and Duchene are scoring at a worse pace then in the past. Most significantly worse.

Yeah his legacy is destroyed for me if he goes to the Oilers. Like if you're going to get into a pissing match with fans and player about not retiring Fleury because of his drug and alcohol problem and resulting behaviour - there's no way you retire Iginla's number if he chooses to go to Edmonon our biggest rivals after a thousand games in the flaming C.
I mean, the kicker is they aren't even that good, it's not like they have a shot at the cup. Their forward corps is already on the older side, it's not the like old days where they need veteran leadership. Doesn't make sense on so many levels, I don't understand why Friedman and others are banging this drum.

Agree. The Oilers retired Grant Fuhr's number, even after he played here.
Iginla was one of my heroes growing up. If he plays for the Oilers for fifteen games, I'll be peeved, but it won't erase all those years of memories.

Ya, you still put his numbers up in the rafters even if he did go to the Grease because that represents what he did for the team. As a fan though I sure as hell would not be applauding or cheering for him though, to hell with that guy. The last minute trade deadline switch from Boston to Pittsburgh irked me but I can forgive that because it is Iginla and he did so much for the team you pay him back by sending him where he wants to go. Spitting on your legacy in Calgary by signing with Edmonton though? Too much.

I like Iginla more than I hate the Oilers. And I really hate the Oilers.
He's one of the greatest people in hockey. He deserves a cup.

To be fair, being a sports fan in general is pretty petty. We hate people simply because of the jersey they wear. I wouldn't hate Iginla if he played for the Oilers but I can understand why some people might.

You say that like it's a bad thing.
Honestly though, imagine the Oilers beat the flames in the playoffs then go on to win a cup with Iggy.
That'd be enough for me to want to never retire his jersey.
