Well let's also not forget that we've heard all about how the oil price drop and its ramifications aren't the fault of the government. That means the increase and corresponding 'gains' for the province aren't their doing either.
In the article it also says Kirby by CNRL has been given a green light to resume.
Im guessing well never see joslyn resurrected?
The Joslin thermal project has been decommissioned, and the equipment is gone. They were talking about doing a mine, but I think that's unlikely anywhere near current prices.

The price of oil going up does not ameliorate Notley of her life-crushing idiocy
I can't wait for the Alberta economy to take off in time for next election so we can hear about how Alberta did all this stuff despite her. Can't wait.

Like I say though, you can't have it both ways if you're supporting the NDP. You can't have been beating the "its a global problem for oil and there is nothing that they can do" for the past 18 months and when the markets cooperate come around to say "see...we got us out and look how many jobs we created".
I do give them a pass in terms of the oil price issue. I don't think they needed to pile on taxes and increase the cost of business for those who remained working though. And that's why the NDP is getting smoked in most the polls at this point.

Don't hold your breathe - the economy is a very long way from taking off.
Hopefully we can stop the net job losses soon. That would be a good first goal. At this point, Calgary is still losing more jobs than it is creating - and the carbon tax hasn't even hit yet.
But I am sure that, despite the wage hikes and tax increases, that somehow the Alberta economy will buck all historical evidence and soar to great new heights over the next couple years!

In terms of the alberta economy despite an increase in the minimum wage it has seen a significant decline in the cost of doing business in the oil patch. If you look at the Cenovous estimate for there 50k expansion they have cut 500 million. The bulk of that would be a labour cost of D+C and fab.
So Alberta will likely buck the trend in that the minimum wage hikes and tax increases will be offset in the decreased price of the labour market so much so that it will be difficult to see the affect of tax increase and minimum wage hike in the data.

Sure... but that's the way it's going to go because those opposing the NDP will have had no issue whatsoever claiming the opposite. No one has any incentive to all of a sudden take up the cause of intellectual honesty. Governments and supporters claim all the credit and deflect all the blame, opposition and supporters deflect all credit and lay all the blame. Just the way it goes.

C'mon, no it isn't... not broadly anyways. They're behind in the polls because the economy is sour, if the economy is decent by the next election they'll probably get re-elected if it isn't they probably won't. The who, what, where, when, and why's of that are pretty much immaterial.

Which polls? Last I checked it was near even between the PC's, Wildrose, and NDP (27, 34, and 27% respectively).
If you mean they are dropping since their got elected, then yes they are. But then again most governments do after some time in office.
Well that is the online poll that I just plain don't believe. I guess there's only one poll that matters and all that, but the NDP was a complete non-factor in the byelections over the past year. It seems to put these polls showing them in the mix as outliers.

Is there a more authentic poll with more accurate numbers we can look at? I know the Edmonton Journal online poll isn't the best but if you have something more solid now is a good time to post it.
