Well, at this point, how much worse could not addressing it have been?
Instead we have a likely declining asset on the books for the next 4 years.

Yakupov was my dream target, but that was more emotion based than anything. My ideal realistic target was Perron, but he took a hometown discount to go to St. Louis. I actually have no idea why he signed for as little as he did. He's a fantastic 2nd liner.
Backup target would have been Gagner, which would have got me (rightly) roasted on here, but like Ashasx said, Brouwer hasn't exactly solved a problem.

Can't pay two right wings 8.5M and then expect to have enough cash to get the top line one we really need.

We have a future #1 RW already if we want, they just need to move Tkachuk to the right side at some point. Pretty sure he's smart enough to make the switch.
How about this for next season?
Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Bennett-Jankowski-Brouwer
Ferland-Backlund-Frolik
Looks fine to me.

This is exactly what I hope to see long term. Still loads of question marks around some of the core pieces listed above but it has a nice loom to it for now.

As long as Tkachuk is fine on the right side, he's exactly the type of piece I'd want there (agitator with skill) to take the attention away from Gaudreau.
That's as long as we keep Backlund, however, with his new contract. Without Backlund, Frolik becomes far less valuable in my eyes, as it's Backlund stirring the drink.

It's nice to see all the chicken littles having to eat crow.
First, it means the Flames are playing well and winning, and secondly maybe...just maybe they'll be less annoying and more patient the next time the Flames fall into a bit of a funk.

I couldn't even read this thread because it contained so much stupid, as did the system thread (since the team really wasn't playing any consistent system).
But the swing in emotions is part of sports, I imagine a bump when again the flames have a bad week or 2.
But, for now Treliving is taking heat... cause the team is on fire!

I wouldn't count on it, these chicken little's tend to run and react with reckless abandon. Having some rational doubts is cool but some people just seem to go over the top with every bump in the road.
The effort just wasn't there from some players at the beginning of the season so it was hard to judge the system without the players buying in or understanding the system.

Both this thread and the GG thread needs to be burned off the internet. So much stupid on it, it's not even funny. I'm more worried that a bad week later this season will cause both threads to start firing on all cylinders again.

There's a subset of people who have an irrational hatred for Treliving even though he's the best GM this team has had in my lifetime. There were a lot of captain hindsights around here and I'm glad they're gone

OP should change the thread to be "it's time Treliving starts getting some serious praise"
Right now this team is winning in convincing fashion and has battled back to first place on the pacific. His trade for Hamilton looks to be one of the best steals in recent memory. The core of this team is signed long term and outside of Giordano our best players are all still young and getting better. He may not have acquired every player on this team but with the exception of Stajan and Wideman he has signed or traded for all the current contracts on the team.

Poor form to play the "I was right all along, while you guys are stupid" card when you stated this not 3 weeks ago
"Season is pretty much a write off at this point as far as playoffs go."
Belittling others with revisionist history is a dick move.

Also, I'm not playing the I was right and you were stupid card.
I'm saying have a little patience and situational awareness instead of freaking out and wanting the GM canned, the coach canned after a dozen games, the 21 year old center benched after a slow start after missing training camp, the old coach who was just fired brought back after a dozen games.
Chicken littles when things aren't going great make this place unbearable.
Saying that playoffs don't look likely after a 5-10-1 start where the team looks terrible is not even close to same thing.
