I would be completely fine with both Bouma and Chaisson being moved in separate trades.
Iginla on the Flames third line and second PP would be nice. Only thing that would concern me is his foot speed haven't watched many Av games this year to say for certain.
Hathaway has emerged as a much more better choice that Bouma or Chaisson though.
...Also, if the Flames were to happen to meet up with the no goods, a matchup of Iggy and Lucic would be interesting. It might be a very effective way to neutralize Lucic.
The Oilers in the playoffs? Hilarious.

Iginla would be an upgrade on Chiasson. He gets fourth line minutes and PP time, that's all.
It's Gios team, full stop. Iggy has been around long enough to know that every player has a role, and roles need to be earned. I see zero dressing room problems coming from a rental player.
This part I can agree with. Iggy was never the vocal leader anyways, and all of us are more attached to 'Iggy the Captain' than the majority of the current roster. It would be nostalgic for us as fans, but to most of the current players, coaches, and even our GM, they didn't know life with Iggy. And he's played on 3 other teams now with pre-established leadership.
I'd be as nostalgic as some on here for Iggy to return for a playoff run with this team. But all this chat, while interesting, is premature for those that want to see and those that are worried about it.
IF the Flames are looking like a playoff team come deadline, and the asking price for Iggy isn't too steep, then I'd say the following (fairly obvious things):
- The Flames should be looking for an on the cheap rental to fill the Top 6 very obvious void that is Chaisson. Upgrading on him with a rental should be something that the Flames should consider, as should upgrading Brodie's D partner with a rental.
- Iggy should be looked at as an option, as long as:
- He's returned to last seasons form in the back half of the year
- We feel his game style would compliment the line GG would like use him on.
- Don't think the leadership / culture issues people are worried about should be a thing. It's been a while, the culture on this team has completely turned over, and I don't think Iggy would be looking to play that role. Besides, who's left that was around when he was here last: Gio, Backlund and Brodie. None will be in "awe" of Iggy.
If the Flames find themselves in a playoff spot come deadline, upgrade Chaisson and upgrade Brodie's partner (without selling the farm) should be on BTs list. If Iggy fits the equation, it should be explored, just like other UFA options available should be as well. Iggy shouldn't get any more or less consideration by BT because of his past history here.

The biggest role I see for Iginla on this team is a guy to defend Gaudreau.
Colborne goes heels over head last night and in storms Iginla without hesitation.
We've been worried we don't have enough team toughness to protect Gaudreau, well Iginla would instantly increase that while adding a shot on the PP and an extra feel good story for fans into the playoff drive/playoffs.
I don't think it will happen but I wouldn't be opposed at all.

Is he really though? Chiasson has nearly double the points Iggy does. And do you really think the guy who was the face of the franchise will be able to just step in and be nothing more than a role player? Iginla coming here wouldn't be like any other rental scenario. Even if he himself doesn't create a power struggle there will always be the "there's the best player ever to play here" factor in everyone else's mind. It's not worth the risk. Iginla just isn't that good anymore.
Chiasson has been everything you want from a depth winger. That includes putting up almost double the points than Iginla this season.
And no, we don't need Iggy to help the powerplay. He's got a good shot, and that's about it. We got other guys with a good shot that can also contribute more in other ways. (It's not like Iginla has a history of being part of great powerplays either, so I don't really get why people think he'd be of help.) Besides, our PP has been just fine recently.
Iggy's been bad for a while now. Even when he used to put up points, he looked more like a problem for the Avs than a contributor if you ask me. This season he's just been a really bad player. Lazy, slow and one-dimensional, about as bad as you'd expect from a 3rd liner on a terrible team.
Add his salary to the equation and the inevitably media frenzy and he's a strong competitor for "literally the last player I'd want to bring to this team".
(I also kind of fail to see how him willing to waive his NMC is news. "Aging player on the worst team in the league wants out." Wow, stop the press. Right now probably every player on the team would welcome a move.)

Unlike those players, Iginla's skills have diminished to the point where he is not an impact or useful player on the ice.
Iginla's skating now makes Wideman look fast. His shot seems to lack the punch it used to have as well. It's as if whenever we experience some success we are overcome by nostalgia.
