The thinking is if flames should or should not trade for him, yet if this is truly iggy's last year and flames fan want him to win the cup, you wouldn't want him here but somewhere else that's a true cup contender that goes the distance in the playoff.

Perhaps flames is not the preferred choice for iggy; however, by saying that any team with a chance to make the playoff this year is better than AVS.

If one of the bottom 6 RW's injures themselves around the TDL and we're still in the race, then I'm all for it. Versteeg and Bouma are both wingers that tend to spend a lot of time on IR.

Problem with the Avs is that they're giving Iginla like 19, 20 min a night. Terrible usage and it's just wearing down on him. Cut that back by 5-6 min per game, shelter his starts, pull him off that bad team and I think he'll find a second wind.

two pages and only one mention of the dressing room, which I find surprising. As Jack said above the Flames were pretty dysfunctional by the time he left and he was the captain and deserves a piece of that (no idea how much)

any thought of bringing the guy back would have to be well vetted with the current leadership group. Brouwer and Monahan wouldn't have an opinion but Giordano certainly would.

that could really mess things up on a team that seems to have players all pulling on the same rope.

I hope this management group breaks trend on pure rental deadline acquisitions.

They rarely pay off IMO.

Keep your pipeline chalk full of young assets and keep the success more sustainable.

Are decisions being made based on what's best for the team or are decisions being made based on nostalgia?

How is any team going to fit a $5.3 million right winger that needs to be sheltered (in terms of deployments) under their salary cap?

Well a big assumption is that Colorado will be willing to retain salary and/or take contract(s) back.

This is something that I think wI'll sink any Iginla deal. When push comes to shove Colorado will opt to hold onto their nickels.

It's all about cost for me and having somewhere for him to play. Depth is important for the playoffs and Iginla is a traditional slow starter. I could still see him getting hot and netting 15-20 goals and there being a chance of him going beast mode in the playoffs. Especially after not playing meaningful hockey for two years. If he costs a third round pick or less, I'm in. Especially if someone like Chiasson goes down for a while.

See, and this is my thinking as well.

I know the return for Iginla was less than stellar, but the concept of moving him was addition by subtraction.

Nothing against Iginla the player, or the leader or the person, but as I've stated a number of times, he became bigger than the team, almost bigger than the club and other people (Giordano) werent engaging to their capacity because it was 'Iggy's team.'

So yeah, there would have to be dressing room concerns.

Further, I dont begrudge anyone their fantasy of bringing him back for a Playoff run, who wouldnt love to see that?

And as a Wild Card I think 'Regular Season Iginla' and 'Playoffs Iginla' are two entirely different beasts.

We certainly need to get more RW depth, but I would prefer they consider better options that Iginla. If he is the only possibilty and we could get him for really cheap, then it might not be a bad idea.

to be honest, I think it would kind of a cool story. I could see it working well if we ended up in the playoffs and I think he would be eager to get a crack at the Cup / playoff run with Calgary. I've always been hard on Iginla for years as he floated around but in that situation I can't see him dogging it.

He would be pretty excited and work his ass off I bet. We need a RW. There are some reasons to think it might make sense. My only question would be aren't there better options and how slow is he now, basically.

We also need more defensive depth for a playoff drive if we are in a position to load up at the deadline. There will be injuries and we'll need a couple more bodies on D, which I would prioritize over bringing Iginla back.

As for the dressing room, the dynamics and personnel have changed so much since he left, I don't think it would be much of an issue. Plus it isn't like he's coming back as a captain, so, and wouldn't have that expectation.

I'd want Iginla here if, and only if:

- Colorado retained salary
- They took a 5th round pick (or lower) back
- Giordano didn't relinquish his captaincy
- The Flames are comfortably in a playoff spot

Most the roster wasn't even around while Iggy was. I don't see there being locker room issues. Iggy would come in and know his place.
