What's the matter with America?

This article, which I stumbled across on the internet, provides a pretty nice summary of what the people who are disappointed in the outcome of the US elections are thinking.

Some may say it's America bashing. I wouldn't.

I don't know anything about the author or website and I suspect it's a "left-wing" site, but the points the author makes are good nonetheless.

The New York Times, a Liberal newspaper, with its analysis:

It was not a landslide, or a re-alignment, or even a seismic shock. But it was decisive, and it is impossible to read President Bush's re-election with larger Republican majorities in both houses of Congress as anything other than the clearest confirmation yet that this is a center-right country - divided yes, but with an undisputed majority united behind his leadership.

Surveys of voters leaving the polls found that a majority believed the national economy was not so good, that tax cuts had done nothing to help it and that the war in Iraq had jeopardized national security. But fully one-fifth of voters said they cared most about "moral values" - as many as cared about terrorism and the economy - and 8 in 10 of them chose Mr. Bush.

Now maybe someone can help me out here with this one. Do they pick George because he's a more "moral" person, or do they pick George because he has the same "morals" as they do?

That probably depends on who you talk to. It is a rather subjective question if you ask me.

They pick him because Karl Rove told Bush to appear more moral.
