Thats probably wise.

Tipping for a beer at a sporting event? Not a chance in hell. Unless its one of the beer guys who brings the beer to you, hes provided a service.

Thanks.
How about all together because earns it really means large brests, body contact and writing their name on the receipt with a heart over the i.

It's ridiculous we rely on cultural shame to provide good wages for servers.

I have a buddy who got so upset, he started acquiring $2 bills inexpensively and leaves several them at places in lieu of tip in the situations where he gets pissed off at the service. He said he had like $200 worth of them which he grabbed at a bank just prior to them being discontinued and grabs them cheap in bulk for people who regret grabbing stacks of them and allow them to collect dust.

His argument is that it's legal currency, it's not foreign currency, he can argue the collector value with the server, he doesn't have to tip in full for something not deserving to be tipped in full, it doesn't look as bad as leaving a crappy value tip.

I was joking with him he should convert to 50 cent coins one day when he runs out of $2. The darn things are worth like $1.50. Leave a few, call them good luck charms. I dunno.

I'm starting to avoid businesses that make you go through a tip screen on their debit machines. I like to pick up some Indian food from Namskar. But you are forced to enter a tip when you use their debit machine, you cant even enter $0 tip. Last week at the farmers market I bought something (maybe those mini pies?) and their debit machine prompted me for a tip, though I could enter $0.

Jugo Juice in Southcentre does this. Why should i tip you ?? You did not make eye contact once with me and are grumpy about your job.

I take satisfaction in pressing the ZERO button for the tip there.

I used Velofix recently, the mobile bike repair service that comes to your house. Bill came to about $150 and the machine prompted me for a tip. Big dilemna here - the guy was great, but if I tip at 10% ($15), using Velofix would have been more expensive than had I gone to a brick and mortar bike shop. Not sure what the expectation was....but if it keeps up at 15% more I'd probably hesitate on using them again....

So with the minimum wage increase there should soon be no more tipping right?

Don't those guys own their own franchises and therefore are owners and not employees?

The truck is owned by a franchisee, but that's not necessarily the guy turning the wrenches.

There's a great recent Freakonomics podcast about tipping - though it might be a rebroadcast of an older one.

It centers on a New York restaurant - I think the one in the Met (owned by the guy who started Shake Shack) so a big-time restaurant - which completely did away with tipping, why they did it, and how they did it.

Coming from a background of managing restaurants, I am hugely in favour of moving to a no-tips anywhere, anytime model of business. Ideally, every restaurant in town should just increase their prices 18% and pay people what they're worth.

I always use the McDonald's rule. If the establishment does not offer me any more service than I would eating at a McDonald's, then I do not tip.

How much do people tip home service contractors (plumbers, electricians, painters, landscapers, etc.)? I've stopped tipping them over the last couple of years or so. Instead, if they do a good job, I will write them a positive review on websites like Homestars. If they are there for several hours, I will also offer them a beverage and/or lunch.

I absolutely hate that system way too many mistakes get made.

Typical of that service too is the server barely said two words the entire time and when they hand you the machine to pay suddenly its the same thing every time "hey you doing anything/plans for the weekend?"
You know what screw off with your "Im your buddy" when its time to tip crap.
You never cared, never looked at me and never gave an interest in me as a person till right now, just f... off.
