The way that little whiny priick flippantly throws his helmet on the ground for some plebe to pick up pissses me off.
Seems more like he's planning on returning, and thinks that getting hauled to the room sucks, so he chucked his helmet with intention of picking it up himself on his way back to the bench. But I could be wrong. Probably am. F-him.
LOL. The hf Oiler room is in total meltdown over T-Mac. I guess he called a timeout with the lead and the Sabres goalie pulled for no apparent reason. Then they scored. Other people they hate - Letestu, Hendricks, Nuge.

Barring any injury to him, Calgary is suddenly a threat for a playoff spot in my opinion.

Yeah, and if we'd had our poop in a group to start the season and not pissed away points to those idiots they'd be the ones looking up at us. I'm still choked that Gulutzan was wildly unprepared to start the season.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Saying he was unprepared isn't fair. The majority of new coaches go through a rough start for about 20 games. Even Pittsburgh did last year before going on to win the cup

To their credit some of them fully acknowledge that this team would be 2010/11 Oilers bad if not for McDavid.
There was one in the Flames GT tonight actually. Calling out Johnny's supposed over the top celly (? didn't really see one) on his goal. CP replied with a fitting Yakupov Fleury-esque celly (I mean take your pick with the Oilers, right?).
Probably because Oilers broadcast flipped over to the Flames game right after losing in OT just to see the tie up Gaudreau goal. Must've been extra salt in the wound for fans up north tonight.

At work with my morning coffee, reading HFoil after a loss. Life is good. Today's is especially pleasant.
I like how Russell scored an own goal to tie things up for the Sabres. Attaboy Russ!
Spector wrote an interesting article about Kris Russell yesterday...
Based on a number of possession and shot metrics, the hockey analytics community has little value for Russell. Today in Edmonton, where Russell is playing out a one-year deal, the Fancy Stats community lives in fear that Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli will “make the mistake” of signing the soon-to-be 30-year-old Russell to a four-year contract.
However, hockey people — defined as coaches, managers, players and scouts — have an almost unilateral respect for Russell’s gritty, hard-nosed game. The fact that the Oilers have stats that paint him as a premier puck-mover in the NHL exacerbates that opinion in Edmonton’s front office, where Chiarelli maintains access to different stats than the ones we’ve found today on excellent sites like Corsica and HockeyAnalysis.com.

Flames have their own in-house metrics as well. I mean, I hope that the Oilers sign Russell for a very long and lucrative contract - would be nice to see Russell get paid as he seems like a great guy, and would help to ensure that the Oilers live in cap hell.
I believe most teams have other metrics that they developed, and they apparently go through some lengths not to have them disclosed to another team can start using them. I remember Treliving talking about it a couple of seasons ago. I believe he said that the Flames don't put much value at all on CORSI, and instead rely on their own metrics. I still think CORSI is a joke of a stat, as it is only an indirect measurement of possession and can be very misleading.
Would love to know what teams really use, and how different those metrics are from one team to another. I would bet that Edmonton's metrics are no good.
