Yah, gotta disagree with the posters who say it was a reckless play by Hall. Really, is this any different than the Sarich hit on Marleau? It was just as hard of a hit, and just as clean. It's just Marleau was able to get up after. And we continually celebrate that hit here on CP.

I agree with Trailer Fire and, honestly, it didnt really look like Hall meant to do it.
Hell, Hall looked more surprised than anything.
"What the hell are you doing here?"

How is Sbisa still in the league? He's worse than Chris Butler, makes dumb suicide passes all the time and then almost steps on his knocked out teammates face?
Such a terrible d-man with zero hockey IQ or common sense.

Yeah, brutal read by Sbisa. He doesn't pick up Hall coming behind the net at all and throws it blindly back. Even if Hall doesn't throw the hit, that's putting your D partner in an awful rough spot.
Clean hit though, principal point of contact is not the head, elbows glued, doesn't leave the ice. Not a thing wrong with it. Hope Larsen is okay, glad some of his teammates keeping him from getting kicked or stepped on.

Why? I don't think a single poster in this thread has said that there should have been a penalty or suspension on the play yet people keep feeling the need get all defensive that it was clean despite everyone in the thread in agreement it was within the rules. Weird. A few including myself feel it probably could have been avoided but I just don't see this big controversy that posters are trying to create.

Yeah, sorry Jiri. But this hit is not a good example for you to push in your quest to remove pretty much all physical contact from the sport. It was just an unfortunate collision between two guys not fully paying attention that ended badly for Larson.
The part of this hit that DOES push your agenda though is the fact that a few players even kicked Larson's corpse in the head while rushing to join the scrum. If you want, rail against that.

It was the post-hit scrum that was really ugly.
I am not one to say "we need a new rule for this", but if a player is down there should be a rule about scrumming near him. First guys in outside of the main players should be penalized.

Dumbest comment on here in a looooooonnnnggggg time. Hardly full speed, and not reckless at all. IMO it was a solid NHL hit and it is just sad to see a player get knocked out for having their head down.
Keep your head up kid!

Completely ridiculous and stupid by all players on the ice that recklessly went into that area of the ice post hit.

Yah, that post hit scrum was ugly. All those guys jumping over him and accidentally nailing him some more in the head was cringe worthy. Good on Granlund and Markstrom for thinking of Larsen's safety while all the other dimwits on the ice looked like idiots.

Granlund and Markstrom were trying to get the other players off of him. They were both visibly upset with their teammates.

The jumping over Larsen's prone body was 100 times more reckless than the hit.
He could have very easily been sliced open by a skate.

There was nothing reckless about that hit at all. Hall defended his space, there is an onus on the other player to be vigilante in defending his space as well. If he wanted to he could have really stepped into the guy and completely destroyed him. Props to him for delivering a hit and not going overboard.
Maybe I'm a dying breed but the game desperately needs a little more physicality back in it. Not at the expense of someone's health like this play but there's nothing wrong with laying the body when the opportunity arises.
As something that is wrong with the game today, I would point to all the jack asses that jumped on the pile and could have easily stepped on the poor guys face to make matters worse.

Has anyone mentioned that the worst thing about this was the guys almost stepping on his face in the scrum?

Hall stopped skating well before the hit and glided into the hit with both feet on the ice. He aims straight for the centre of the front of Larsen's body. I'm not sure how a hit becomes more textbook legal than that.
Larsen had his head down in the most dangerous area on the ice. Sad outcome, but a predictable one.
